This is a real fine patriotic one. Mr. Robinson shows well as a salty Navy CPO. A boyhood hero had been a Pacific War Naval Aviator; dad of the kids next door. When the time came, I joined the Marines...and got deployed aboard three Navy ships, then posted Combat Cargo Office to USS Arneb (AKA/LKA 56), stood regular JOOD (underway). Arneb and USS Graham County (LST 1176) were WWII veterans. In the process, had a "wartime romance" that resulted in a long married life and four kids. Thanks for the memories CRGFC. I last saw this movie as a kid; somewhere about 1965-66 or so on an after-school, CBC kids' anthology movie series called "Passport to Adventure". The show, hosted by a gentlemanly cinephile named Elwy Yost, ran for two years, and during its run, showed perhaps 60 movies ranging from "The Magic Sword" to Alfred Hitchcock's "Saboteur" to Frank Capra's "Lost Horizon". I didn't know it at the time, but those two years of movies absolutely cemented my later life and career in film. "Destroyer" was one of those Passport movies.

I'm going to say this one more time, thank you for posting this movie. I wasn't alive during this period, it's about 40 years ahead of my time, but I love maritime history, and it all started with Titanic (of course). I first watched this movie years ago and I've seen or listened to it while driving at least a few dozen times over the years. It's still among my favorites even though it really doesn't have much to do with maritime history, but it is entertaining. Thank you again.

Loved this movie. I was in the Navy 1965-68. Old ww2 ships. With racks for beds, no AC. Loved it. We had a similar explosion on our ship and fire on our sea trials out in the south pacific. Survived it but it was touch and go with aftermath explosion.

Right arm badges were to signify men of the Seamen Branch; left arm rating badges were to be used by personnel of the Artificer Branch, Engine Room Force, and all other petty officers. The eagle continued to face left on all rating badges. A well steamed press dress blues with a cover in the shape of Battleship bows can't be beat. Add liberty cuffs and you are ready for anything. I had a WWII Submariner as a patient. He told us about being depth changed in Sea of Japan. He said to sit in a 50 gal drum with the lid on tight and have someone beat on it with a baseball bat.

Howard Koontz, my brother and I were both in the Navy during Vietnam. He was over there, I was not. I was in 73-77. All insignias were worn on the left arm during my enlistment. I was a 3rd class petty officer. MR-3. I served aboard the USS BLANDY DD-943 & The USS VULCAN AR-5. MY brother was aboard the USS WADDELL DDG-24. He made it back home, but sadly, we lost him to cancer, due to AGENT ORANGE. Take care and stay safe.
