No way. He agreed to stay at Arsenal at a lower wage than he was being offered elsewhere because it was his club. Then the club went a step too far and went back on their offer and tried offering him even less. The club was trying to take advantage of tie with arsenal. He was taking a deal much less than his market worth then they reneged and tried knocking him down further. The board took the piss and once that trust is broke, its broke. That was the boards fault.

Love this club and our fanbase more everyday. My family are ethnic minority and we live in Haringey n17. Dad took us to a game and all we hear is "y"word they call thier own players the Y word too, even if its a MusIim or chrstian or atheist player. We didn't feel welcome there in stadium. Now with qatar news.. all totemham fan comments is no @rabs no muslms 😔 Arsenal is for everybody all fans all backgrounds and NO FAVOURITISM. i wish my somaIi n tukish friends in Haringey where told about totemham rasict fans. Sorry for rant but i love arsenal now especially the fans❤️

The actual story behind this situation as told by Arsene Wenger was that Arsenal and Cole had agreed on a deal. When it came to signing officially they had reduced the agreed amount by £5k a week which Cole refused to sign. Wenger even tried to reason with the board saying you're willing to lose Ashley Cole for £5k a week?!?!? They stood firm. That's when Chelsea swooped in and paid him more than his initial agreed deal with Arsenal.
