He never bad mouthed or disrespected anyone . It was always love and gratitude for other people's talents and achievements . We will never see his like again in the music world . I love Robbie too but I beg to differ on the bad mouthing part......not only did he do it but he made a habit of it over decades.....well documented stuff.... many times he openly called Levon, Rick and Richard irresponsible and lazy....it might be true, it might not but saying it IS bad mouthing important , rock and roll talents...especially close ones.

It's very sad how much resentment Levon Helm had for Robbie Robertson - taking it all the way to his grave. Robbie has never said a bad word about Levon through all those years - only recalling him with respect and affection. The saddest part is that almost all the big hits written by Robbie were inspired by Levon Helm.

No matter what people say to paint Robbie in a good light he completely screwed the Band over. He waited until Levon left town then used a couple high powered attorneys Martin Scorsese gave him to trick the rest of the Band into signing over their entire shares & any future earnings over to Robbie. Robbie then withheld all the revenue even from Levon until Levon sued him several years later. Somehow Robbie & the attorneys finagled the Last Waltz contracts so only he made money off of it despite it happening while the rest of the Band still had ownership stakes & Levon never got paid despite keeping his share. Robbie resented the rest of them not putting their fair share of work into it & also their substance abuse issues so he robbed them while they were all drunk and/or high. I’ll always love the man but what he did to them was foul. There’s proof of everything said here. Why other famous musicians that were friends of all theirs have stayed quiet I’ll never know -maybe it had to do with Robbie’s immense power in the music & movie businesses I don’t know but CSNY, the Allman Bros Band & the Dead are the only musicians I ever heard talk about Robbie negatively for it. It’s gotta be something like that bc it doesn’t make sense. The only band that ever tried to help the rest of them out was the Grateful Dead who split profits from the tours the Band opened for them in.

RIP Robbie.... I see he is playing his bronze dipped Stratocaster from 1976! The last time, more than likely, that guitar was played live. I was a fan of The Band from the start. But when I went to Watkins Glen Concert in 1973 I made it to the stage while Bob Dylan was playiing with the guys and I was in awe. I had just turned 18. I had been playing guitar for a couple of years, 3 chord tunes. Which all Dylan's tunes are based on. But The Band Tunes, meaning Robbie's tunes, were more complicated for me to learn. Now, 50 years later, I know these tunes like the back of my hand, got to meet Robbie a couple of times in NYC, and also got to know the other guys through the late 90's through other friends and also the guys who came later to play with Levon Helm Band... All those guys. Everyone is amazing. And Robbie was the guy who started it all. Thanks for posting Lieke!

It doesn't diminish one whit Robbie's legacy to highlight that his best work was a member of a talented ensemble. Thanks to Nelson for the tribute to Manuel's lead on the original. Robbie during the Band era (as distinguished from his work with Dylan) was so original that in an era of majestic guitarists, his playing was as distinctive and instantly recognizable as anyone, save possibly for BB. And saying that you rank with BB is one hell of a compliment.

Rest in Peace Robbie. A true original, he loved the music of the South, the roots of Rock & Roll. Brought to Toronto ears first by powerful Radio Stations out of Nashville and other Southern Stations as well as Buffalo New York, and then brought live up here by Ronnie Hawkins and Levon Helm. He took that sound and expanded it to create some wonderful music , along with the rest of the Band. A soulful musician and a truly classy guy. You never hear him say a bad word about the people he knew and loved. And a proud Native Canadian and proud of his Jewish roots as well. I for one will sorely miss you. Rick from Toronto.

Ich war immer ein Bewunderer und Liebhaber seiner Musik, seines Gitarrenspiels und genoss seine Ausstrahlung. Lebewohl Robby Robertson! Servus from Germany Thomas

I bought my first Band album in ‘76, so watching Robbie’s last public performance is like seeing an old friend but also bittersweet. The guy did pretty good for a kid from Cliffside (Scarborough, Ontario).

I first heard Robbie and the Band sometime in the early '70s, probably "Rock of Ages". What else can I say? He will be missed.

I was just a kid of 12 when this came out.. I was transitioning from the Monkees to Grand Funk, The Who and others.. the Band showed up and I knew it was time to grow up.. because this album and Nashville Skyline Dylan changed it all.. bye Robbie.. it was a great expedition

Yet another example of real music that will live on unlike the disposable music punched out today. The very people with the autoune/AI lyrics /electric drumbeat dont deserve to be at the feet of these performers
