Insane yellowbelly and Murray cod fishing at Lake Nillahcootie, the best fishing I can remember

The fish were going NUTS at Lake Nillahcootie when I was over there last Monday evening. I have never seen anything like it. It was quiet between 4pm and 6:30pm. In that time I caught 3 carp, and then in between 6:30pm and 7:30pm the place just erupted with the best fishing that I can remember experiencing for a very long time.
The fish were going off their heads with bites coming so frequently that I could not even lead my fishing rod on it's rod holder.

Reminds me of when I sliced my thumb open on a flatty Gil, the only thing I had to stop the bleeding was my sweaty sock, by the next day I was in hospital with blood poisoning and a hand 3 times the size lol, thanks Rob

Hi Robbie. I am embarrassed by my little outburst recently. I normally don't put anything personal up but the situation calls for it. I recently lost my mother and the "black dog" took me over. I have been lashing out. We could not even see her and she died alone, with the nursing home in lockdown. I was finding it hard to cope ,and was as grumpy as a bear with a sore head. You did nothing wrong and copped it for no reason. Your channel has been a delight to me for years. I recently saw a shag with its feet caught in discarded fishing line and had to whack it on the head and have been contemplating giving the hobby up. So many people don't do the right thing. You are not included. I was approached by an intellectually disabled friend who want's to go fishing recently so I guess I will be dusting off the rods again. I re subscribed too! Cheers. Pleasant fishing!

We all have our dark periods mate, seems like yours has been very dark indeed. Takes a big person to front up and admit their part in some things. Well done and bless you for being that big person. I am truly grieved to hear that your mother passed, especially in the circumstances. I am sure no-one would judge you harshly for your reaction. I would still be hating the world. As an angler, I have seen many things that make me question the sport. Bait containers and other rubbish littering the rivers and lakes, line entangling a variety of animals, reptiles and birds. I have seen people kill snakes and lizards they mistook for snakes miles out on the river bank, when the snake was just trying to get away, because they might be a danger to the fisherperson. Plastic bags and beer cans, bottles and fast food boxes seem to be easy to carry into a fishing hole full, but impossible to carry out empty. The emptiness must weigh a lot. Instead of giving up, I try to mitigate the damage done by yobbo gits and carry a garbage bag with me, collect rubbish as I find it, clean up line and hooks and stuff I find, and in short, leave the holes better than when I arrived. Our very reason for going fishing, the fish, depend on it. Do not allow the turkeys to hold you down when you can soar with the eagles mate. Do your part to make up for those who are too selfish and blinded by their own glory to understand they are the problem. Love and best wishes to you and your family following your loss, and I hope you continue to come out of the darkness. It is hard sometimes. Fishing is a great outlet, so just enjoy the moments and let the days string themselves together from those.

Hi @robbiefishing , I remember growing up not far from the Edward river at Deni probably 20 odd years ago. Usually Sept/Oct when the river would rise into minor flood we would head down to a local sandbar alongside some grassy banks where nearly every night after school just before last light the Yellas would just go off especially on a shrimp & worm cocktail. Those were fun times and i think thats where my real love of fishing begun.

OH YELLOWBELLY!! They are the best eating fish!! I have only had it once but it was delicious. We were catching them by putting a big tube of wire over them as they raced over a shallowly flooded causeway and filleting and frying by the river. Just wonderful.

Blimey Robbie....you would be surprised to get a Redfin! I've fished here a number of times and never had a Redfin bite. In fact I have spoken to a few people who have fished here for a very long time and one gentleman who comes from Wang way hasn't seen Freddie in 10 years. But in saying that I have twice spoken to Fisheries guys and they both said there are Redfin in Lake Nillahcootie(I asked them why it is not stocked with Redfin). I think they are towing the company line really... Great vid again Robbie, thank you!!

A bit of rain, some sun, changing pressure systems with the storms moving through and everything is waking up. Shows how much damage flow regulation at dams and locks and weirs has done to the life cycles of the natives. Great to hear they are moving down around your way. Love when the lakes fill and the fish move in to feed on the flooded ground, they are always keen on a well presented bait. They expect to find all sorts of things in the flooded tussocks and grasses that have grown in the low water period. The discolouration to the water helps them feel secure from top down predation, so they move into the shallows. It also helps the water warm up, as the darker water absorbs heat more efficiently. That always gets the natives excited.

Interesting how the natives you caught seemed to come out in the evening, maybe just cruising closer to the banks during lower light periods or a bit shy when the boats are around?

That is an amazing day of fishing. Duct tape is very useful! I use super glue amazingly enough, it bonds for 3 days, immediately removes the sting and keeps it protected. Not that new skin stuff actual super glue, the gel is easier to apply but takes longer to dry. I have some useful things in my tackle box. It's gotten a bit heavy!

Oh Robbie, bogan rod rests, my pet hate, 😫 ..always dead carp thrown up the bank when bogan rod rests are left stuck in the mud next to lake. anaconda do them for 7 bucks, reusable as well 👍

What a magnificent day you had Robbie! I cant say the same though. I'll have to stick to metal detecting and digging up scrap metal, or as Urban Fisho calls em "ground carp". 👍 Great video Robbie! Cant wait for my gear to arrive, I hopping to head out to Copeton with it and catch a yellow belly or cod.

Need to get myself a little axe. Did a trip recently down a 4wd track and found 3 trees fallen over the track. All we had was a pocket knife with a small hatchet head and it took us hours to chip through the trees, what a mission!
