No right minded person would tune to drop F on a 6 string. Thats insane. Just get a 7 or an 8 and dont put your guitar through that Hell. You'd need a baritone and like .14 gauge strings to handle that, and even then you'd be adjusting your poor truss rod...poor poor truss rod. -shudder-. All those PROGRESSIVE METAL (Not fucking djent) bands use either 7s, 8s, or 9s when tuning that low.

Linus Martin You're right! You have to try one to see what it's all about. I am buying for two reasons - The Beatles used this on a few songs and I have most of the guitars they have used, and secondly, I tried it at the local GC and it is fun for noodling around on. I will be using this for Helter Skelter, Let It Be and a few other Beatles songs it was used on.

@njp2k914 3 жыл бұрын
I know I’m 7 years late!! If anyone gets the current squire cv bass vi I would recommend making a few mods. 1. Kluson vintage tuners keep mine in tune way better than the stock tuners. 2. The staytrem wide bridge makes intonation so much easier. 3. I would get some beefier strings as the stock ones on the squire aren’t thick enough imo and you lose some low end on the low E and A (newtone strings in Derbyshire do a great .024-.100 set which imo is better than the labella set)

Leonard Crainie It's like that with most squier vs. fender guitars, fenders generally are overpriced :( The only major difference between a squier and a fender is their pickups & electronics. Sometimes the kind of wood used for the body of guitar is different too, but that doesn't really matter to the sound.

Man, I wasn't able to locate a pawn shop version so I had to make due with the squier. I'll say it's an awesome instrument. Here's how I use it; I play in an Americana band, and I find it pretty useful for playing bass lines and doing baritone-like solos to contrast our lead guitarist. It does the job amazingly. I did string with the La Bella stainless strings, that are abit beefy.

I'll have to get one of the squier ones. looks awesome with the binding and inlays and my squier classic vibe 60's strat (the sunburst one with 3 single coils) is, simply put, the best playable guitar I have ever laid hands on. Squiers really are great instruments!

I recently got the Squier Vintage Modified version and aside from challenges gettting the thing set up correctly, the thing really kicks butt! Gigged with it this last Friday playing in a blues/heavy rock power trio and was coming up with all sorts of cool psychedelic tonage especially when adding just a bit of overdrive! Not much more than $400 out the door (Including taxes, gig bag, and new strap and a couple other small items) here in the U.S. There is no excuse NOT to get one of these!

I'd tune these up to something like Drop B (compared to normal guitar tuning) and play slow sludgy doom metal on them. Think I might also rip out the daft Jazzmaster trem and drop a Floyd Rose in it...

***** These are really too short scale to be tuned to bass-E - you need a 34" scale to make that work. They're more like long-scale baritones. Bring them up to G or A or something like that, they'd make more sense. The trem seems pretty clunky - if there was either a hardtail version or a Strat/Floyd/Wilkinson trem option, that might make more sense.

What I went on to learn; I bought the squier , when you get yours google instructables Fender Squier Bass VI Fixing tone. That guy was spot on on everything except changing the strings which really is about whether you want it to be more like a bass , or more like a guitar. the strings are specifically chose to straddle the area. The rest of that instructable is pure gold. If you do want to use it for extreme metal , I have bought and installed the Warman Twin Loco Hot Rail Humbucking pickup for the bridge which has pretty much doubled the output power and drives a distortion nicely without having to carve out a hole for a full size humbucker, or make the expensive leap to actives, it's just a nice straight swap. and at just £18 you can't go wrong!

"Look out bass players", actually from the looks of it, or perhaps these guys just didn't, the Bass VI isn't actually made to be played like a bass. I think our jobs are pretty safe seeing as it'd be pretty damned hard to play a guitar riff and bassline simultaneously on one of these.

Nice! Lots of classic music was recorded using the original VI. For example, Joe Perry used one on Rocks, George Harrison and John Lennon used one whenever Paul Mac was playing 6 string in the studio.

First of all, wouldn't it make much more sense to run this out of a bass amp, considering it is a bass. And second, how would this put bass players out of the job? If anything this would be putting guitar players out of the job XD
@samdunkksu2b129

Because it is still technically a 6 string guitar, the pickups dont push the same way bass pickups do and you can actually ruin the amp that way

Yeah, the tone will be different but you can run it through either. Or you can pick an amp like a Fender Bassman that is favored by both guitarists and bassist. I’d maybe worry about a guitar amp at high volume, but I think these pickups are more guitar style.
