Those are some socks, Mr. Fripp! Anyone that has followed your antics for any length of time knows that you have a great sense of humor. One of my favorite pieces of evidence for this comes from the "Great Deceiver" box set, where, when addressing the audience, you remarked "We will now proceed to attack culture once again." 😄

What a beautiful guitar passage! It takes me back to his mid 70s album with Eno "Evening Star"., Where as myself and other mere mortal guitarist play the guitar for Mr. Fripp the guitar is the input device that gives him access to the lush soundscapes that he's created inside the magic confines of his sampling and effects rig. I have no idea where to even start to try. If l have missed an episode where he explains his equipment or gives a tutorial would be immensely helpful.

It is a gift to see the inner and outer worlds of a man. Inside, we see Robert not only learn a part, but fully explore every permutation - "retrograde" obviously a well practices approach, that I have not yet employed. Wonderful explorations. Then we see the outside world, with all the equipment, his mastery and supporting people and infrastructure. Excellent.

The purity of the electric sound while demonstrating the figures was wonderful but then the added effect was stupendous. You can have both! In the same way, I think, you can have music to accompany you on a cosmic journey but it would also befit a nice two pounds journey on a bus. It can be both!

@@rifqikhairul7458 i still havent listened to most of fripps recordings that are available. quite prolific. I think the soundscapes are kind of the opposite of crimson. crimson is largely driven by rythym and poly rythym. Fripps soundscapes are surreal and built by over layered harmonics and envelopes of sound. not aggressive at all. i think it is the flipp side of fripp

You probably don’t need suggestions from the audience on touring opportunities… …BUT, on the off-chance that you’re casting around for ideas someday, I will now note: That dual Revox analog tape-loop soundscape system you toured with in the ‘70s, and which you dubbed Fripoertronics, had such _wonderful_ textures-what with tape warp, and random shifts in reel speed, and the odd pops or snaps or string noises that’d make their way into the soundscape … a real feast of sonic elements particular to the tools both of audio production and of audio reproduction, along with in-the-moment instances of chance!! There was a very John Cage-like element of Zen to it all! So, to those data points add the further facts that people my age are all about the reel-to-reel decks, and the turntables, and the valves, PLUS all the millennial kids are just now also discovering and cherishing all these warm analog artifacts… The point is, as lovely as your current soundscapes are, if you were to ditch all the digital gear and announce you were embarking on an old school Frippertronics tour of City Winery-sized venues around the globe as an intelligent mobile unit, carrying just your Fernandes and two Revox decks and a Hiwatt amp and a Buzzaround clone and maybe an EMS VCS3 through which to further process your guitar’s tone, I think you could reasonably sell out each continental leg of the tour in under a week. So around seven days per continent you chose to tour, although you could maybe sell out the South American leg in far fewer days. Or maybe not SELL OUT sell out, but I’m quite sure you could pack every venue nearly to the rafters. I can’t recall which l.p. of yours had tour dates printed on its jacket’s back, including several stops at pizza parlors, except I would’ve been just 9 at the time and likely not allowed to see the rock album man exhibit his “mobile unit,” but I wager I wouldn’t be alone in my desire to see Frippertronics demonstrated on late-1970s technology! I mean, your dance card is probably full for decades, but it might be a lark to haul out the Revox decks.

While I have seen many older jazz guitar players play with closed hand at the picking hand, I say I may only do that when playing acoustic and not even then that often. For electric I use open hand, because I want to be able to play hybrid picking at a whim, always, having it immediatel at my disposal, and dampening the strings I am not using, as well as be immediately availble for tapping select notes on the fretboard. On top of that, I do not play electric guitars that have the volume control too far away from my picking hand pinky. I do want to be abe to adjust volume and tone with my pinky on the guitar, and do volume swells. So a strat is more perfect for me. Also to have the pick flat all of the time limits tonal options. I want to slant it to attack certain notes, strings, pinch harmonics, and do whatnot and whatever with my pick to vary the tone of the note.
@harounel-poussah6936
@harounel-poussah6936 Жыл бұрын
- Volume pedal are better. - Damping is done with the left hand - He uses cross-picking technique. - I don't remember him using tapping - If you try to play Fracture on a Strat, you'll end with tendinitis - If you practise 6+ hours a day on a Strat, you'll get tendinitis too

Fantastic, I've always wanted to have a closer look at the music Spaceship control room, what amazing equipment. I've also wondered why the Roland GR-1 is still used over the GR-33 or GR-55 and I can only guess it's due to the sounds in the GR-1 which may not be present in the modern units. I guess midi hexaphonic pickup wise, the tracking is largely in the pickup itself and hence the controller from the GR-1 onwards is more about layout and personal preference. It would be wonderful to know. I've been following the soundscapes since frippertronic tape looping morphed into soundscapes and really enjoy the 'other dimension/other world' music it makes. Thanks for the latest 'Music For quiet moments' box set and this wonderful live performance. Incidentally, I actually enjoyed the non-distorted playing of the E tuning practice piece, however the heavy distortion gives it a completely different beefy quality that's also enjoyable and well 'ROCKS OUT', so why not? Many thanks for sharing.
