The systems of the world doesn't give a rusty F about children! Anyone who touches children inappropriately or worse should be exiled from regularly society forever or taken out on sight! The systems are full of predators, so the laws do just a tiny bit to make it seem like they care, but they don't. If you have children, take care of your own. Sexual offenders very seldom can be rehabilitated even if they get help. Sexual predators are the scariest because sexual urges are a normal part of being human so someone with abhorrent urges will not stop this behavior because they get slapped on the hand by law enforcement. They know that if they happen to get caught the system doesn't punish them appropriately. Giving them probation and short sentences. The idea that this will dissuade a monster who has excessive sexual urges is extremely naive (stupid)!

Right? What’s the point of having multiple charges/convictions if some bleeding heart judge is just going to sentence the perp to, for example, serve his multiple 20 year sentences concurrently? It’s ridiculous. But I bet if the victim were a loved one of one of these judges who give light and concurrent sentences, you can bet the perp would have the book thrown at him and serve a consecutive sentence.

Pretty typical for the UK, if anything it's worse now, just the other day a chap got out after five years of his ten year sentence for being a ringleader in trafficking hundreds of underaged girls as part of the grooming gangs, along unsurprisingly abusing a load of the victims personally. Like many of the others with the same crime who are now out he will likely be living in the same area as his victims, won't be deported if he happened to get his citizenship revoked and will be able to claim welfare and unlike his victims will get plentiful legal aid if anything else comes up. What's worse is that what was happening was deliberately covered up for decades by the police, social services and local councils and even now is still ongoing and marginalised in the press due to the economic standing of the victims and concerns of accusations of bigotry due to the gangs being ethnically based and often claiming religious justification for their actions.

I was only saved because I was near a house and I ran directly to their front door. I did not know the people who lived there, they might not have even been home at the time. If you kill a child it should be automatic death penalty. Or in countries hung up on criminal's rights over sentences w/actual deterrence like the UK, a "life" sentence that actually means LIFE NO PAROLE. And if you also sexually assaulted the child the death penalty should be expedited w/very limited appeal options - if at all! With all the heinous & barbaric crimes occurring today, it's beyond odd that countries are leaning away from the death penalty for finding it "barbaric" & "inhumane". Even the US is pulling back from forceful sentences like the death penalty, with expected results. When you take this deterrence power away from the criminal justice system, it's only going to get worse. You want to scare barbarism off the streets, bring back firing squads, public hangings, & the guillotine. Give would-be murderers, rapists, & child molesters a graphically visual cause to pause!

Oooooh, you did this one! One of these girls, Susan, had lived quite close to me, went to the same primary school at the same time as my older sister. Another, wee Caroline Hogg, she was only ten miles down the road when she was taken. I was a little older than her, maybe 8 or 10, and I remember so clearly we were all on the lookout for the van. It was a scary time.

@@angelabordack It was vaguely scary, I do remember a lot of talk about it all. But kids don't think about these things very deeply, so it didn't traumatise me! As for the legal systems, I'm excessively grateful we do not have the death penalty. Such actions are deeply uncivilised and there isn't a lawyer or judge or politician alive I trust 100%. Add in racial bias and the answer is a big fat no from me. I wonder how many innocent people the US has executed? Far too many, that's for sure. The death penalty is revenge and makes the society that carries it out no better than the criminal. In my opinion! Concurrent sentences are common in the US too, if that was what you were referring to. I agree with what was said here, concurrent sentences suck. I don't even understand the thinking behind them. I'm sure there is some bullshit legalese reason!

Even today in this area it's hard to imagine such cruelty and evil - things are peaceful and there's not the anonymity of large towns, but that can also give a false sense of security. I was in hospital in Edinburgh about 12 years ago for about 2 months. On the ward I was on was a private room and in that room was Robert Bastard Black. At the time he was in HMP Barlinnie in Glasgow but the Edinburgh Hospital had the specialisation needed to treat him. He had 4 prison officers, mostly there to protect him from the other patients. He was in for a very painful gall bladder condition, couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke. Anyway, I ended up being diagnosed with a rare flu which then went through the ward like a whirlwind, apparently it nearly killed black.. I remember overhearing the nurses saying how it took evey bit of self discipline to keep their composure when treating him.

Then, when the time is right, “they will tell where the victim is buried if the death penalty is taken off of the table. Because they know a family truly needs to have their loved one back…. Sick so in so’s. So they get to “live” while they didn’t give a dang about those they vilified, frightened and murdered…. Damn it people, please keep an eye on your kids. Don't ever lose track of them. Easier said than done, I know, but too many parents these days are wishing they had done that. Coming at it from the other side, we need better parenting all-around to prevent killers like this ever being raised this way. That may be an impossible dream, but merely locking away or executing the bad people does not prevent more people from being born and being raised to become monsters. It's an endless cycle unless more parents get on board and start raising their kids better with more love. Focus more on the kids' problems rather than your own. And yes, of course it's a naive wish, but what other chance do we have as a society?

I think it was called "Life Magazine's 100 greatest photographs of all time. I loved that issue so much. It was full of photos dealing with every subject imaginable. Political, war zones, sporting events, natural disasters, terrorist attacks, portraits of famous figures and just art photos. Sadly, I accidentally left it sitting on top of a wood fire stove and it got very badly singed. It broke my heart. 💔 One of the photos that really stayed with me though was a photo taken during the war between Northern Ireland and England. There had been a bomb attack on the streets of Belfast and the photo was of an Irish Catholic priest dressed in a full length cassock, kneeling beside the body of a dying British soldier while giving him the last rites. There was blood spread all around the soldier's body as he lay on the street. The priest was pleading with the Irish soldiers to just hold off the fighting for a few more minutes. This was such an incredible photo because this was a literal war zone but the priest was only concerned about performing his duty to what would have been essentially a member of the enemy. But to the priest, there were no enemies. Just victims. The priest's courage and commitment to his faith was inspired. I loved that photo 🥲

@Wallart pops there's a similar photo of a priest in a south American country, where a solider who's been shot is clinging to his legs and as he gave the last rights the sniper fired again, the priest could see the sniper and shot him a look of "let me finish" just as the picture was taken.

@@nunceccemortiferiscultu7826 All I can say is how grateful I am to these talented artists who literally at times put their own lives at risk to capture these incredible moments in time. Without these images to remind us of this history we're just doomed to repeat it. And it really does restore your faith in humanity at times.
