At 71 years this song and any of Robert's music still makes me get up and dance! I was blessed to meet Robert in the late seventies bartending at a club in Portland Oregon where he played on his way up. We all knew where he was headed! He was a kind and gentle soul. Keep keeping on Robert, you are the best!

@maggiedoja4 жыл бұрын
Madman unfortunately I can say I saw Huey and the “news” they should’ve been opening for RC himself- would’ve loved to have seen him play back in the day- this music holds up, nothing knocking pop but the news were not talent in any measurable way. Bet you paid like 12 bucks for that seat too man! Aah those days didn’t have the cringe factor we do today. But good music is definitely always good, will be our favorites for lifetimes

SaidIwould I remember that tour. I met both Robert Cray and Huey Lewis' bands before the show during their soundcheck. Phenomenal show. I agree Robert Cray could have headlined the gig. You know Night Train Clemons was doing long before Strong Persuader. Unfortunately it took that song to get him on the charts and in folks hearts Ever see Animal House 1978? That was Cray thumping the bass with Otis Day And The Knights. He started the Robert Cray Band and played colleges in and around oregon in his early 20s. Then did a collaberation with Curtis Salgado called the Cray-Hawks. In 80 released Whos Been Talkin then Bad influence and False Accusations in the mid 80s. In 85 he released Showdown with one of his heros Albert Collins and Johnny Copeland but in 86 is when the game changed with Strong Persuader. In my opinion one of the greatest r&b albums by anyone anywhere. The man can do no wrong. I cant tell how many tapes i wore out on the 80s. Finally i got smart and utilized having a complete studio in the house and recorded everything i had on reel to reel after cleaning up a bunch of it. Then coppied back to cassettes and dat the cds when they came along.
