Every since Robert was in Lonesome Dove I have seen a little bit of Gus in every movie Robert every done from then on. It really was Robert but Gus was hidden in Robert. Knowone could have been Gus like Robert was. It was a joy to watch Lonesome Dove. After the tv series and it came out on VHS we all had one at our house. Then when it came out on DVD everyone had a set at home. We rough ride, though woods, down the mountains side in the mountains of Tennessee. So we were crossing rivers and creeks and riding in rodeos. We would gang up on a Saturday evening and break out Lonesome Dove and still do. It's still a beautiful life like movie. Thank you Robert for giving us one of the best series ever filmed and your wonderful acting.

I've known of Robet Duvall for years but I only just started watching Lonesome Dove. The whole cast is great great actors, Tommy Lee, Diane Lane, all the others, great parts and actors..... but Robert as Gus.... it doesnt even feel like hes acting. It feels like they plucked an old cowboy right out of the old west.

Have kept track of some of his well known work starting with mockingbird. Last saw him in John q with Denzel. No question an actor. Well spoken and grateful. The smell of napalm in the morning most memorable film quote😀

8:50- he's a serious crab cake enthusiast, lol! When I worked at the Bleu Rock Inn in Washington VA (around this time when chef Mahan was running it) Duvall used to show up ocassionally for crab cakes. Always w/a beautiful lady on his arm, who did the driving. :D

The interview shortly talks about the movie " Wrestling Ernest Hemingway" from 1993. That is a rather slow drama and a very charming one. If you want action and thrills it's not for you but easily one of the hidden treasures in Robert Duvalls discography. Will it even be mentioned along The Godfather part I and II, To Kill a Mockingbird, Lonesome Dove, Network and those classics? No but still something I think many will enjoy.

When Gus died in Lonesome Dove, I was upset. My wife was bawling! Bob does a great job with Gus. Steve Zahn did a wonderful job with a young Gus in Comanche Moon

@@jiveassturkey8849 Steve Zahn’s mannerisms we’re spot on as a young Gus. Arquette’s performance was an insult to the artistry given by Bob and Steve.

In the right role---and he's done this many times---I believe Robert DuVall is the best actor in the business. Tom Hagen in The Godfather (with several other truly great actors and actresses as well); Bull Meechum in the Great Santini; Mac Sledge in Tender Mercies and countless other roles as well. But these three are my favorite performances by Robert DuVall. (Like Mr. DuVall, I, too, great up a Navy junior. My dad wasn't USNA, he was a Navy doctor in submarine nuclear medicine. In 1970-1971 I served as a Navy corpsman. Like Mr. DuVall, I know what it's like to get up at 0400 when the family is on the road from one coast to the other.) Robert DuVall will always turn in a top-notch performance. Go Navy! Andy McKane, Molokai, Hawaii.

My favorite actor of all time. I wish I could have seen him in much more leading roles. Curious what he would have done as a more prevalent role in the Godfather than he had. They sold theirselves short not giving him more of a leading role in that one.

Duval is 100% correct About Francis Ford Coppola’s “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” it was awesome! Especially Gary Oldman’s portrayal of “Vlad Dracula. He should’ve won an academy award! The exception (IMO) was Anthony Hopkins who acted or overacted and detracted from the movie.
