Looking at the, lush, green, still locations, it is hard to envision what went on there, back in 1863. The Headquarters of both places are only 15 miles apart. It is so chilling to remember the bloodshed. Those statues make it more real. I recall reading that the average age of the soldiers was about 25 or 26. The ages, however, ranged from about 80 to 12! It's mind-boggling. Thanks for the excellent, firsthand coverage, Nick. It is a tragic, very disturbing part of our history. 🏡🙏🏻🙏🏻🏡

I have been fascinated with Gettysburg ever since I visited the battlefield back in the 1967. We were at little Round Top at twilight and you could sense the soldiers and almost hear the guns. When we went back in the daylight it was a totally different atmosphere--just beautiful green fields and stark white monuments.

I bet that must’ve been a site to see at twilight! We were only here in daylight. I may have to go back to see it at night. Thanks for the great comment!

@@TravelswithNick One word of advice be sure to look straight ahead, because you just might not want to see what is around you. My Dad was a complete skeptic who when the rain would stop in the middle of a street was not awed by the fact that one side of the street was in the pouring rain and the other side of the street is in sunshine would just say--“IT HAS TO STOP SOMEWHERE” was affected by the feelings at Gettysburg. Hope you enjoy!

The amount of work they had to do to bring it back to look the way it did during the battle is crazy , as it was a motel and tourist stuff and the house itself was a gift shop (went in their when it was ) i used to live down the road from this spot. So when the battlefield trust bought the land the owner then bought the old school house what is now "The Federal Point Inn" they have a Tavern in the cellar which is a must as the food and drinks are great. they also bought the old Dunlap's now "Federal Point Grill"

@@TravelswithNick deff have to try the tavern on your next visit , they also will let you walk around and checkout the other floors as they have artwork and items displayed in the stairways and halls, rooms are $$ but worth it.

From the UK - went to Gettysburg and absolutely loved it. Spent a year at university in the States and studied the Civil War as one of my courses, with Professor Stephen B. Oates - be careful; you can get obsessed with this stuff!
