this guy is seventh dan, there is no way he would get to that level through strict japanese testing without being very very good, and training for a very long time. whats genius about his technique is that it isn't fancy, his movements are small and economical, it looks like he is not making any effort at all, and like the ukemi are just throwing themselves around. thats what you want, you just allow the ukemi to do all the work.

Hmm. I've studied aikido for 18 years and have seen many demonstrations, which are usually very good. In this one there just isn't any flare except on the part of the ones taking ukemi (falling) for this guy. This is what makes people skeptical about aikido's practical applications - people just falling down. In my dojo, you don't fall until you actually feel something compromise your center. I doubt the guys flip-flopping around felt a thing. Aikido does work but not practiced this way!
