Hammill is the world's greatest unknown musician. He is a poet, a composer and a singer, all to the utmost of human capacity. It is telling that so few recognise this.

Hendrix was the Hammill of the guitar

Since 1982 Peter Hammill has done us several times the honor of comming to play in Greece. Robert Fripp on the other hand, never bothered.

It took me a couple of listens to get VDGG, but when I got it I Loved it.

Same here! Took me years.

Couple of listens? It took me much more than that, and twice, once for the first era of VDGG, than, the second era of VDGG with his very aggressive style of signing. Add to that the dark and often baroque style of the music. I think VDGG for me was the hardest prog band to get into. It's a musical world that is different than anything else. No compromise.

@@claudevaillancourt3574 I started with Goldbluff, very bad decision. I should've started with PHearts or SLife.

@@claudevaillancourt3574 Even Magma was easier for me. GGiant was as hard as VGG.

VDGG and Crimson have always been by favourite prog bands, I think they both do the extreme dymanics better than any other bands and this is evident from what Martyn and RF are talking about.

“H to He…” was the first VDGG record I heard, back in the 70’s and I was hooked there and then.

Hendrix was a singer.

He was, but he didn't use his voice as his main instrument, especially an instrument that would break ground the way his guitar did. Hammill used his voice as his main instrument, and certainly broke ground with it in a big way.

I heard VDGG on an independent radio station 7 years ago. It was Lemmings. I was astounded, I didn't know whether it was super early Iron Maiden or super early Judas Priest lol. That took me down a rabbithole that also led me to KC.
