I can definitely hear the A section being in 9/4 but I feel it easier to count twice as fast into a bar of 4 then 2 bars of 5 then another bar of 4. To me I feel like the bass is following that pattern with hitting 1+3 in each bar of 5 which is a classic reference to a 5/8 pattern. It all adds to 9 though.

@spemer12 I have to agree with you there, some of Ron Carter's stuff really showcases his crazy sound. Vicente's sound is punchy on this, but it fits the context of the group imo.

why does vicente's bass sound soo sexy??? im asking as a live sound engineer, is there and particular EQ settings to get the bass sounding like his or is bass jus really high quality lol

@WahkibaJ I don't love everything about the sound, but it is incredibly punchy. I'm sure its got something to do with his amp in combination with the bass. I've heard some vintage amps like an old polytone eq'ed to sound like this. i think the best recorded bass sound i've heard so far is probably sam jones on cannonball adderly's album somethin' else. i don't know what they did right but they got everything good out of the sound.
