You seem to me to have excellent higher order processing skills. As a person who did a psych degree, went on to major in neuropsych, i feel like your skills in communicating convoluted information is so well tuned. I didnt get to go as far as i would have liked in neuropsych but i work with people with disabilities, which i love. I just wanted to say that your communication skills are so admirable. I really appreciate this channel, in a youtube sea of channels, for this particular capacity of yours. Cheers from Australia Dr Grande

Anchorage guy here. I worked with a retired corrections guy who had been a guard at the prison that Hansen was held at (he didn't say when, so I'm not sure if this is when Hansen was at Spring Creek or later on when he was transferred to Anchorage). You can imagine that as a guy who worked in corrections for decades, he was a treasure trove of stories, as many old folks are. He would talk about how Hansen was a good guy to around because he was always very polite and respectful, and was a model prisoner. Because the other inmates had some kind of bizarre respect for the guy, they would listen to him. My coworker would comment on how this little old frail guy just casually kept the others in line. That says something about prison, I guess. The little guy was in there for kidnapping women and hunting them with a rifle. I wouldn't exactly call a person who did that tough but I guess it is the ruthlessness they respect? Or just the body count? I can only speculate. My coworker was a guard for decades and he said he didn't get it either, just something about prison culture. On a different note, the guys that were around back then would tell me that his pastries were very good and his bakery was a popular one.

Also, some people just don't do well in a herd environment. There should be more alternative opportunities for students to pursue their academic goals in a more individualized setting. It's a bit personal, though I feel like I need to thank you directly. I currently live alone under lockdown, and unfortunately it hasn't been pleasant, especially given I was recently diagnosed with MDD and GAD... However, I live in Australia, and waking up during this time is quite difficult (primarily unmotivated and very irritable), but for some reason I can always tolerate and look forward to your new videos when getting up, I think it's due your genuine demeanor, interesting topics, educational value and humour. Amongst other good traits of course. So thank you for making my mornings easier, and helping me get out of bed and function during these difficult times 😅 probably sounds like a lot of praise and dramatic, but it's completely true nonetheless. Thank you for hard work. Also.. If I may make a request, please do a video on the analysis of Sweeney Todd, haha. Or, an easier non-fictional person (of us sharing the same home city, funny enough) would be Chopper Read. No obligation, but either of those two would be awesome! Haha. Anyway, cheers. Stay safe. I read a book written by a wildlife guide and photographer who lived in Alaska. The book was mainly about his life in the nature and his friendship with another wildlife photographer and about their photo-hunt for a blue bear, a rare type of grizzly bear with unusual bluish hair. But at some point it went really dark. The author´s girlfriend was one of Hansen´s victims.

Interesting you mentioned the FBI. John Douglas, former head of the FBI's Behavioral Sciences Unit, covered this in his book "Mind Hunter" in a chapter called "The Most Dangerous Game". He also covered several of the other cases you profiled. I would love to see you profile his work as a senior criminologist.

kudos to that truck driver for stopping. Many people choose not to get involved in what seems to be a dangerous situation. If he hadn't picked her up and she hadn't been brave enough to go to the police, Hanson would most certainly have continued with his horrific hunting trips. I can't even imagine how scared those poor women must have been. Another fascinating insight Dr Grande.

Have you done Dennis Nilsen? There is a drama showing in the UK right now, starring David Tennant in the main role. He was a very interesting character and there is quite a bit of footage of him that you could look at. He was never diagnosed with anything. Book called 'Killing for Company' was written about him. He was a Scot who killed 15 young men in London in the 70s/80s.

Egads! I vacationed in Anchorage, Alaska and camped and fished for king salmon in 1979. We camped in the wilderness somewhere in the Kenai Peninsula and none of us had weapons. Not sure whether Hansen was in or out of prison then. It was so easy to see nothing but moose, bears, bald eagles and dall sheep for 50+ miles or more. He'd have had little trouble continuing his heinous crimes, especially with a plane.

Thank you for analyzing this case. I grew up in Anchorage and have been fascinated by it since childhood. My mother and I have visited and left flowers at the grave of Hansen's unknown victim, known as Eklutna Annie, several times over the years. She's believed to have been killed by him in late 1979 to spring 1980, and to this day she's still unidentified. NCMEC has released an updated reconstruction of what she may have looked like just this summer.

Because he had personality pathology, disordered people tend to obsess and fixate on wrongs they've endured, especially those with NPD, one of the main signs of a personality disorder is dramatic reactions and obsession over perceived wrongs, that's why the cluster b personality disorders are labelled "The dramatic cluster", so his fixation and "saltiness" was simply a symptom of his disorder.
