If Robert Henke never made a single record, he would still be one of the most significant figures in electronic music. Along with co-founder and one-time collaborator Gerhard Behles, Henke developed the earliest version of Ableton Live, the digital audio workstation and audio sequencer that, among other things, allows musicians to store and trigger samples during shows. Henke has also recorded several innovative electronic albums.
Robert Henke sat down to discuss the importance of limits, working with lasers and the history of Ableton Live in his RBMA Berlin 2018 lecture.

On the Gravity LP, recorded under the name Monolake, he mined the intersection between abstract computer music and dance-derived techno while on Floating Points, released under his own name, he used digital noise to reconstruct the ambient sounds of our natural world. A consummate thinker who exists outside of all mainstream conversations, Henke has most recently been experimenting with lasers to craft mesmerizing audio-visual installations.

one of the brightest minds working in underground electronic scene today. proud&happy to have witnessed Lumiére laser show & attended Q&A afterwards back in 2014 I think in my godforsaken Siberian town (when it comes to attending shows with deep & thoughtful music).

extremly refreshing and inspiring, especially when you come from another area - let's say Jazz or whatever "handmade" music, cause those guys think in so different concepts which open new ways. Prefer this over any stupid blockbuster film ...

I love Ableton there is no wrong way to use it and a endless ways to use it!!!! It’s definitely the most versatile piece of music software made. I can remember using Live before you could write midi notes and it was all audio clips it’s came along way to becoming a true DAW!!!!!

Last weekend MUTEK was an amazing venue in Buenos Aires. I think we need more information sources like those events for many electronic artists living in Argentina. So Red Bull Music Academy you are very welcome to bring such a legend like Robert to Buenos Aires.

Just a friendly suggestion to the video producers- these are great videos about music, yet they are made much much less effective by not allowing the audio examples to be played. If there's any way to clear those- these videos would have a hell of a lot more practical teaching power. Ohterwise, talking about music is like dancing about architecture. Cheers.

typical off by one programmer error stuff, more so when you ain't debugging but talking and not coding. musically 5 pentatonic notes and 7 white keys would land you at the octave, so he must be adding a b9th or a 6th displaced by an octave, also typical Jazz substitutions..:)
