When Robert talks about jobs and workers he doesn't mean jobs and workers because there are plenty of those in a big range of pay grades (think taxis, coffee ...). He is talking about factory, mining, heavy industry, car manufacturing type of job with unions, only grad 10 required ... That fact is those jobs disappeared long ago. When TSMC openned chip factory here they can't find the right people to work. When Tesla open factory in the US, the shop floor is large automated, and as they hire so many peeople they hire people better qualified than old fashion car production lines. When Foxcon tried to open factory in the US they also failed to hire. Lighthizier should not confuse workers's protection with the US need of intermediate to advanced manufacturing which do not have workers' welfare in mind at all.

Robert Lighthizer has the idea that capital and companies have to do what the government wants. But that is not capitalism. Capitalism is small govt, and freedom for both individuals and groups of individuals (companies) to choose freely want they want to do. If govt runs the companies, you would have a Fascist state. It may benefit the workers, but it'd still be farcist.
