On the 27th February 2023 The Forge invited the public to share in the commemoration of the 45th anniversary of the death of Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe.
Theme: Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe and the apartheid legal system
Presenter: Advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi
Ngcukaitobi has written on matters related to land, the history of black intellectual thought, and constitutional thought: he is interested in the life of Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe, focussing on Sobukwe’s impact on the apartheid legal system, and the impact of this system on the course of his own life.
Discussant: Professor Gordon Ndodomzi Zide, Chairperson of the Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe Trust, and Professor Emeritus in Anthropology at the University of South Africa (UNISA).
Facilitator: Dr Vashna Jagarnath
Dr Vashna Jagarnath is a director of Pan Africa Today. She works in the office of General Secretary of Numsa. She is also Deputy General Secretary of the Socialists Revolutionary Workers' Party and Senior Research Associate at the Centre for Social Change at the University of Johannesburg.

Thanks to the channel The Forge for arranging this media channel and also Prof Tembeka Ngcukaitobi for the lecture on our Hero an true Pan Africanist Mangaliso Robert Sebukwe. Mangaliso Sebukwe his desire was a United Afrika one country same as Nkwame Nkuruma, 60 yrs later after the first African country got independence yet we have not progressed towards this vision. I think its time we go back to the original vision why we wanted freedom. Thank you all. Am I wrong to say that we as South Africans we are delaying the full freedom of Afrika?

I'm glad that you decided to agree on acknowledging Sobukwe as a Pan Africanist Movement. I vividly remember on 11 November 2016 when I was squashed for questioning why Sobukwe as a founder of Pan Africanism in South Africa is not acknowledged. To be exact, the response from the likes of Vusi and Phopho was that Sobukwe cannot be acknowledge as he was not even Socialist. How jokeful the response was but thank for having observed my query and plea.

A Xhosa Methodist song, refering to Jesus says, "Makadunyiswe uMkhokheli ngalo mzekelo wakhe. Kungasweleki uMlandeli kulo mkhondo wakhe. (let the Leader be praised for His example. May there always be followers in His strides.) It doesn't seem as if the are followers (practically now) of Sobukwe's example. Was this sacrifice at a painful loss never to be repeated?

Is it possible (or not) to talk about Sobukwe without mentioning Mandela's name. It is a norm to speak about Nelson Mandela without mentioning Robert Sobukwe. Does this make you think?
