Joe has served the institution of media (not the establishment) better than many great folks. He genuinely shared what really matters. What really matters is Joe's thought process... it is perhaps unquestionable that it has already soaked into a large, thinking population. Lex will end up doing better and bigger things. He will encourage more talented folks. The beauty of this is really special. Not everything is bad about our world of today. 😇

People have ideological blind spots, and this interview is a good example of that. Proctor doesn't engage with a central question, which is WHO gets to decide what qualifies as "misinformation", and when trying to crack down on misinformation becomes flagrant censorship. Additionally he criticizes eugenicists, and yet minutes later says "there are too many people on the planet", which is effectively saying there are too many of *the wrong kinds of people* on the planet. Whatever the validity of his claim, he is yet another "intellectual" whose goals may be noble, but doesn't realize what the implications and consequences of those goals might be. He also has a tendency to omit individual choice-making from the equation--"obesity is caused by upholding the sugar industry" and "offering soda in schools". It reveals a deeper inclination to deny the agency of individuals...which is what authoritarians do. Not saying Proctor is one himself, but just pointing out my qualms with his worldview.

I think it is easy to misunderstand Roberts approach to conversations... He is a Science Historian, he is answering the ques. in a scientific mind... meaning, to explain something you need to explain the positive and the negative, good and bad, back and front of a subject to get us/you to understand... Explaining topics this way will of course sound hypocritical and contradictory ... Just the Title of the talk made me want to burn him on the stake also !, then I listened and realized , these are sensitive subjects, but to understand why they were "the in thing" at one time, we need to hear the good and the bad to understand correctly.🧐

The secret to running this world is to control all opposition to the direction our leaders want to take us? If that means creating the Federal Reserve and all the governments throughout the world then so be it.. I was radicalized in 1963.. when I watch John F Kennedy have his head blown off in Dallas Texas I was going to be just 10 years old in a few days I had helped my father and mother go around and pass out literature about JFK since I was 8 years old in the 1960s I even had those fancy badges so when they blew John F Kennedy's head off in the middle of the street I said what up with that and then over the years I thought we'd find out what happened because you know the Lone Ranger always figured out who did the bad stuff but no they just kept telling us different stories everybody's different stories and they bury gfk like he was a king or a princess then we have to bow down to everyone in the government little did we know that we did not win World War 2 WWII and all the wars have always been won by the same people who start them they're called the Pharaohs they have a home base in Switzerland Switzerland? What's a proton do you know how to listen in on a proton at CERN I certainly do said CERN they will never know what we're doing or planning Switzerland is the home of the mercenaries and one of the largest dealers in weapons they love those Riyad Buster rubber bullets that knock people's eyes out anyway give me a 322 Now give me a Double H 88 how about a skull and bone for good measure stack them up and put the teeth over there Hitler couldn't have done it any better depopulation through vaccination if you read this it means you're part of helping if you don't understand or can't face the truth I don't know what to tell you yell it from the rooftops the Word if you don't want any future for your children

My grandmother had a German friend named Heidi, when she was a little girl, around 8, Hitler visited her school and all the children had to stand in line while he walked down and smiled and made small pats on their heads and shoulders. I was 15 when my Grandmothers friend told me that story, and I knew it was important somehow that here I am sitting in a room with someone who met, and spoke with Hitler, telling me how he walked, talked, and smiled at them. Almost like history right there in front of me.

The financial incentives and psychology complicates this issue. If a company hires professional psychologists to find ways to manipulate our own human biases and predispositions against us, then we have a right to question what extent we (the consumers) made a genuine informed, rational choice regarding the product. This is further complicated when some companies are able to lobby their congressmen to favor and protect their products in ways that other similarly dangerous products are not favored and protected. Heroin is illegal while tobacco is legal, even though they are both addictive and tobacco is objectively more deadly; meanwhile psychedelics are highly illegal even though they are neither deadly nor addictive. These double standards call the whole system into question. Logically it would seem that we should either make ALL drugs legal, as your argument would suggest, and then choose to either restrict potential advertising or leave it unrestricted, or we apply a consistent restriction to drugs that are deadly and/or addictive and make drugs that are neither fully legal.

His big concern is smoking. He looks as old as me, 68. The world of smoking has changed enormously in the U.S., for the better. I wonder what is his concern about smoking--health or second hand smoke. I have noticed (some) people that quit smoking have then increased drinking and/or (prescription) drug intake. If he wants 100% no smoking in order to be happy, he needs to find out how we can safely self medicate ourselves. Sure we don't have to deal with second hand smoke now, but just the same, people are still doing harm to their health, and more. I think he totally downplayed alcohol which kills the users, as well as killing others in car accidents, domestic violence, child abuse . . . Trying to hear him out gave me a stomachache. I guess we all have an axe to grind and smoking is his. There are so many things killing us now, his concern seems a bit anachronistic; but I guess he won't be happy till 100% is reached. God bless him.

Fish don't have that." "Humans are the best thing in life, but Octopus have cool stuff going on too, like brains in their fingers." Focusing on how to "save" the planet from climate change by encouraging a birthrate reduction seems like high hubris. Who actually knows how to control a population of 8Bn and who knows what happens when you start shrinking it significantly. Certainly, you're going to have fewer people available to work on and solve problems that a larger cohort of people left us with. What makes anyone sure that, on balance, it's better to have less people? If climate science is complex, real-time understanding of the econo-socio-political dynamics of our population on the climate is hopelessly complex.

Lex, I love your podcast and your strive for goodness. Having said that, I think that when you discuss the fact that scientists had all kinds of incentives to stand by evil, it's helpful to also look at yourself on the issue of Rogan: You and Michael Malice had this discussion about the fact that as friends you should not criticize Rogan publicly (at least that is more or less what Malice said). Here in this podcast, you also seem to speak against the censorship of Rogan's podcast, using smilingly objective arguments, while actually it is clear you are also motivated by your friendship with Rogan (since as Malice said, this friendship dictates that you'll not criticize him publicly, so at the moment you decide to open your mouth and speak publicly about this issue , you are left with one option - defending him, by doing so you are using your own huge platform in order to serve a personal goal). Here you have a good demonstration of the problem you presented with these scientists: You have an incentive (which is your friendship with Rogan) to use your resources(your platform) in order to do something that might be harmful and bad( might be not either, but this is not the point here).
