Very nostalgic. My Grandparents used to take my brother and I to Thursford to see/hear Robert Wolfe in the 80's. They are still with us, one is 90-years-old and the other not too far off it, and still living in the same house they did three decades ago.

Robert Wolfe is an epic along with the Mighty Wurlitzer organ! We have one at the "Utah Theater" in Logan, Utah! It would be my ultimate dream to have him come to Logan and play for us! No one in the world loves a Mighty Wurlitzer and Robert Wolfe more than I do! :-)

Wow - this man is a tremendous organ player - he understands the meaning of the name Robert Hope-Jones gave to his theater organs - the "Unit Orchestra!" Robert Wolfe knows this well and does a marvelous exposition of that facet of the instrument.

uncle louie Not sure as to which post you have seen this in, but I assure you I do know the difference between the two spellings. If I did spell it wrong, it is a typo. It happens occasionally and I do not catch it. Neither, unfortunately do a lot of other people. Your concern is understandable, and you're correct. Now, ...if ya'll will excuse me, I have a few more possible chances today of making some grammatical errors in proper spelling and useage. Keep a close eye on me. I might forget to apply the possessive, or apply the contraction in an improper way. I haven't been in school for over fifty years now, and it has become easier for things like this to slip past my attention. It's embarrassing, and feels a lot like I got pinched by the spelling police. By all means, keep me on the straight and narrow!

uncle louie I've heard Robert play this piece a number of times, and more often than not it's played in a more subdued manner than this. Often Robert likes to conclude a medley of pieces with something with a bit of Oomph, with plenty of cascading and jumping around which his audiences like, I think in this instance it just so happens to have been Whispering that got the 'Wolfe' treatment. Personally, I think its good fun!

Don't understand or see the purpose behind the FRANTIC pumping of the right foot volume pedal!
@OrganMusicYT
@OrganMusicYT Жыл бұрын
If you don't play then you won't understand, however from watching the video, there are no frantic movements. It's not a volume pedal, it is a crescendo pedal, and depending on how you have it set up it can be used as a crescendo, as a registration aid, or in this case, to accentuate certain points in the music. You can hear this from the occasional "bite" in the sound during the faster numbers.

@@OrganMusicYT OK. The Conn I had only had the volume pedal.
@OrganMusicYT
@OrganMusicYT Жыл бұрын
@@silaslongshot941 there are 3 expression pedals on this instrument, one for the main chamber, one for the solo chamber and a crescendo. Some have another for piano. That's a fairly standard arrangement. Some of the larger instruments have 6 pedals, 4 of them for chambers, 1 for piano and another for crescendo.

I've begun to learn to play theatre organ myself (I figured that age 15 I have time on my side) and am hoping to see Robert live very soon. I have been playing music for around 11 years (since I was 4) and I can play no more than 5 pieces without music. It truly is incredible to commit all those pieces to memory

RWBHere Robert plays in the Blackpool style. The arrangement of Whispering takes after that of Reginald Dixon's. Nothing wrong with it at all, it's just a different way of playing it.

@@OrganMusicYT for us novices...can you explain the " Blackspool Style"?
@OrganMusicYT
@OrganMusicYT 4 жыл бұрын
@@nashvilletennessee3194 The Blackpool style originated with Reginald Dixon, who was organist at the Tower Ballroom, Blackpool from 1930-1970. In order to play for ballroom dancing, he had to develop his own strict tempo style, which had to be as listenable as it was danceable, for the benefit of those in the audience. In the early days, it was was a snappy and hot playing style, with clear, crisp articulation. This is most evident on records made by the REX recording company. Through the years, the style changed/developed (most notably after Reg came back from WWII service in the RAF) to suit public demand, but always with the emphasis on strict tempo, and entertainment. Blackpool was an entertainment town where the biggest names in the UK, and from abroad, came to perform. It was, and still is, a holiday town. I should add that as part of the style, there was also heavy use of second touch melody on the left hand with embellishments/counter melodies with the right, as well as the use of the crescendo pedal for note accents. The Blackpool style we hear today from organists such as Robert Wolfe, Phil Kelsall, Nicholas Martin etc is heavily influenced by Reg Dixons playing style in the late 1950s and onwards, with each exponent of the style having their own variation of it to suit their own playing preferences.
