Roberta Flack has such a beautiful voice. "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" was used in the 1971 Clint Eastwood film "Play Misty For Me". Roberta had a lot of great hits in the 70's such as "Killing Me Softly With His Song", "Feel Like Makin' Love" & some great duets with Donny Hathaway "Where Is The Love" & "The Closer I Get To You".

This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written, and Flack is one of the greatest singers ever. Other hits by her include: "Feel Like Makin' Love", "Killing Me Softly", "Set The Night To Music", and two duets with Donny Hathaway, "Where Is The Love", "The Closer I Get To You."

Just beautiful. This was written by the British folk singer Ewan McColl for his wife, Peggy Seeger.

I read, somewhere, that the day Roberta went into the studio to record that song, her cat had died. She carried that emotional charge with her into the bluesiness she sang with.

Thanks for seeing the live performance. It really shows how phenomenally her voice and her playing piano was.

I saw at the Montreal Festival, beautiful show. At the end of the show she showed graciousness and said since we are performing at a jazz festival, to me everyone gets to shine. She proceeded, this is my drummer and as expected a great drum solo. She continued down the line to finally the keyboardist who was surrounded by an array of keyboards. She said this is my musical arranger. Everyone expected a keyboard solo but this guy did a vocal scat singing solo with an incredible vocal range from the low registers to high, arching his back and looking up to the ceiling soaring with high vocals all the while playing the keyboards. Helluva show.

These were all the feelings when I met who would become my wife in 1978. It is rare when an artist captures so eloquently real love.

Without high tech at her disposal, Miss Roberta's talent represents a time in music when giants walked the earth and she was one. Miss Roberta is from nearby Black Mountain, NC. I think of her every time I pass though her hometown.

Sarah, you are a rare find in the KZfaq reaction community. You unexpectedly showed up in my feed reacting to Tim Conway's Elephant sketch and then the Dentist sketch. 2 of my favorites from Carol Burnette. No long intro from you. Right to it. You laughed like a little kid and your reaction was priceless! You exhibit the same qualities during emotional songs. You're not afraid to show your vulnerable side. You don't pause the videos or talk over them. You just enjoy them and then tell us why after it they're over. I truly believe you're not required to pause the videos multiple times or continually talk over them. These are attributes that most KZfaqr's can learn from you. SUBSCRIBED!!!

I loved the first version even better- it was slower. I wore that record OUT!!!! I got to see her perform one warm DC night on the lawn of the Capitol. Much sweeter ,safer, kinder days. She was a national treasure. Before twerking there were these little things called love and mystery.

We all fell in love with Roberta Flack with this song. Her first album was the first record I bought as a teenager. I remember my trip to the music store and the guy there showing me how to handle vinyl records by holding them at the edges, not getting my oily fingers on them.

My father used to play side 1 of her 1973 album "Killing me Softly" over and over and over to the point that as a child, the songs were ingrained into my mind. In particular, the title track, and even more so, "Jesse", one of the more melancholy tracks ever recorded. Track 3, "No Tears in the End" was pretty good too.

“The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face”, written in 1957 by Ewan MacColl, son of working-class Scottish socialists, for Peggy Seeger ...Margaret "Peggy" Seeger is an American folk singer and songwriter. She has lived in Britain for more than 60 years, and was married to the singer and songwriter Ewan MacColl until his death in 1989.

The number one song of 1972 - a staggering vocal performance (it was actually recorded two years earlier). Ewan McColl wrote this tune ... he's still collecting the royalty checks ... But the original studio recording (the First Take album) is starker and more moving. Trust me, you will love this one even more: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q7mifsmXld2ac4k.html
