Mimi has left her sugar daddy and has come to die near Rodolfo. She tells him of her love (large as the ocean and as deep and infinite, you are my love and my whole life!) and they reminisce about their first meeting. Soon, although Rodolfo thinks that she is sleeping, Schunard realizes that she has died. Rodolfo cries out his heart-rending last words - "Mimi!, Mimi!", with Gwynne Geyer as Musetta, Jean-Luc Chaignaud as Marcello, Kristinn Signundsson as Colline, and Franck Legulinel as Schaunard. Leontina Vaduva and Roberto Alagna were always so well matched in their roles. A lovely interpretation.

Musetta wouldn’t be caught dead in that outfit! Not the woman who sang “ Quando m’en vo I“. Looks like a middle aged housewife. Me in fact. Loved Leontina Vaduva and Roberto Alagna together. And separately come to that.

If you haven’t seen the Australian opera La Boheme with David Hobson as Rodolfo and Cheryl Barker as Mimi it is available on video. I think it was shown on Great Performances on PBS. It was equally moving altho the voices of the principal performers were perhaps not as good, but it was an outstanding production.
