Roberto Clemente was an authentic class act and a man who successfully transcended racial, ethnic, and language barriers to become a great baseball player and an outstanding humanitarian. A common sentiment amongst those who knew him was that he made you feel proud of being a human being. May you rest in peace, Roberto. May God bless you always.

My father’s favorite baseball player a high school was named after him in Chicago. Roberto was the pride of the Latin American community. Dad said he was one of the best.

Fortunately I got to see Roberto Clemente when the Pirates came to Philly. Veterans Stadium had just opened up. fifty cents for kids 14 and Under. I was 14. God Rest His Soul 🙏✌

AS i am curious as to what the public is saying about my loved one, Roberto Clemente, i had nothing more to do today but to search the internet in wonder. A little known secret, my aunt said that Roberto is the creature from the black lagoon and laugh. To most, perhaps to all, this is a disgrace, how could this woman say such a thing. Well, when you are a blood relative of Pirates#21, and the family has gathered, and the jokes fly, as the arrogance is recreated thru memories, that happens. Yes the creature from the black lagoon has pulled a fast one, and the FAA, the US government you have failed. Once again. You have failed.

I go back aways. When i was a kid i saw it live. There was a man on third. Roberto caught a ball and hit his back on the right field wall. He threw that ball home like a pitcher, hardly any arch and so fast, the catcher tagged the guy out, and he was on third base and a throw from right field! Bobby use to swing at some of the most outside pitches and hit them. He was like 110%. The sports writers use to dis him for he complained about back and other pains. well he was the kind of guy that just like i say played harder than his physique could handle. i love the guy. god rest his soul.

"....Clemente was married in 1964; he and his wife had three children. He was involved in charity work in Latin American and Caribbean countries during the off-seasons, often delivering baseball equipment and food to those in need. On December 31, 1972, he died in a plane crash while en route to deliver aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua...." -- wikipedia. thanks mark

He overcomed so many obstacles, yet he remained loyal yo his principles instilled on him since childhood. He was born in PR but he was black and those years blacks were considered inferior regardless of your accomplishments. He rose above all maltreatment dished out to him and opened dors for many to reach their dreams. His generosity cost him his life serving the needy. He will live for ever in our hearts. RIP. Much love to his widow and sons. Be proud of your legacy. Blessings.!!!

@@ManuelGuzman067 in time I believe that they will. I understand he wasn’t the first Latin player to play in the MLB but he was the first to be active in his culture, community and the city he played for. All along while being one of the finest outfielders we’ve ever seen in the bigs.
