So sad with the latest news...
Robin escaped from prison in the Holy Land, he is now accompanied by a fellow inmate who needs to save his life.
Here is the part of Hadrian's wall that I visited as this movie reminds me of my youth.
I still do not get why Robin is going there on his way to Nottingham... besides, he is showing to Azeem the west side instead of the east. Not very nice. And the kids going up and down the tree should get an award for that astonishing performance... I struggled to do this on my own...

Everyone had like 20-30 VHS and we shared them with friends. @@Phil_Mitchell That's not necessarily true though is it. Of course it won't experience emotions, have feelings or sentence in quite the "same" way we understand/experience that. Doesn't mean there is no kind of consciousness or awareness, far from it as obviously there is. Still massively disrespectful and indifferent of another living being in any case, as well as the *human* emotions, feeling and sentience that associates with natural world, other beings and scenic beauty. You diminish the natural world with blunt indifference you diminish your own mind.

@ericritchie6783

@@Phil_Mitchell Consciousness The state of being aware of and responsive to one's surroundings. There's a whole lot of observations how trees interact with surrounding elements and react to conditions and weather in complex ways. Awareness and reaction happens both at the microbial level around and between root stocks and how they express/interact with canopy or root development/areas also. Trees also experience weather and climatic events in ways that may shape future expressions and resource management in response. There's a whole lot of deliberation and research that can be considered on a simple search on the topic, you can't post links here. There is of course a large degree of subjective definition around the nature of "consciousness." If brain synapse develop connections over time in response to information taken in by the senses, why would the rhizome patterns of roots, mycelium and microbial activities not resemble exactly this, just in a somewhat different context? What makes you any more or less of a "figment" simply responding to events as they unfold? How are you any different in essence? It's gets very philosophical in a hurry, i.e. does free will even exist ect. However in any case its still disrespectful of how natural elements of the landscapes, that we literally evolved with, help shape our own conscience and sensibilities. Trees get cut all the time on scale, one of those things, however it can be done respectfully or with cold indifference. You can thin a forest out mindfully to harvest materials, or just clear cut vast swaths causing a bunch of erosion and knock on environmental issues. Clear evidence of this can be demonstrated. In any case this is an iconic scenic location not a forestry commission plantation so it's an even greater act of vandalism. Trees could apparently persist without us around, apparently not so lightly vice versa as the hydrological cycle would be way too diminished for most landscapes to be habitable and the climate too unstable for probably most or all mammals. Like I say you diminish your own mind not to be "mindful" of other living components of the larger ecological environment.
@ericritchie6783
@ericritchie6783 8 ай бұрын
@@Phil_Mitchell The first section of a Harvard article for consideration. "MAY 6, 2019 Exploring The Underground Network of Trees - The Nervous System of the Forest by Valentina Lagomarsino figures by Hannah Zucker When scientists first studied the structure of nerve cells that comprise the human brain, they noted their strong resemblance to trees. In fact, dendrites, the term to describe projections from a nerve cell, comes from the Greek word Dendron, for “tree.” While the connection in the appearance of nerve cells was made to trees, the comparison may have been more apt than originally realized: scientists are starting to uncover that trees have their own sort of nervous system that is capable of facilitating tree communication, memory and learning." You could look the rest up if you wish. Essentially there many things that resemble human synaptic pathways both in nature on earth the larger cosmos, interesting to consider. I think its accurate to say that another large and complex living being does indeed have its own kind of awareness and consciousness around with its experience and interactions with its environment. Certainly to some extent at least and not necessarily precluded a relatively large extent, although that's not easily known.

Amazing how most of us British overlooked an American Costner playing Robin Hood with such an awful British accent because we love him as an actor, he did an amazing job and this film was truly an epic depiction of the story!

Every time someone says "it's just a tree" seems to be missing the point (trees are pretty important - they give us something we need to live and without them we are all dead). This tree was beautiful and much more than just a local landmark. I sincerely hope that the youth who cut it down learns of the impact of his stupid act and grows to become an advocate for the protection of beautiful lone trees, woodlands and forests everywhere. Punishment isn't needed, just education.

Hadrian’s wall runs from east to west across one of the narrowest parts of the island. Robin Hood just directed Azim to pray in a direction 90 degrees perpendicular to the wall. Now while the wall certainly can’t be described as cutting across the landscape in an unwavering straight line, it seems very likely that Robin just directed Azim to pray in a direction that is either North or South, not East.

The wall twists and turns with the landscape. I live next to it. Kev points towards Carlisle to the west. And when he picks mistletoe? The first scene is filmed in 'sycamore gap'. Hey, it's a movie!

@@chriswood3252 To say nothing of the fact that they would have had to bypass Nottingham and Sherwood by a long way to reach Hadrian’s wall, as well as the fact that Mecca and Medina are really Southeast of England, not east. Yeah, it’s a movie with great acting talent, I’m happy.

You realise that's not meant to be Hadrian's wall, right?.. It's just a random wall... Confabulation has turned it into Hadrian's wall over many years of public misinterpretation.

@@consciousbeing1188 I think it's intended to seem like Hadrian's wall because Americans and other non-Brits have heard of it, but for Brits who know the geography and complain it doesn't make sense, they made sure to not actually call it that in the movie so they could plausibly say that it's just another random wall somewhere between Dover and Nottingham.

"Azim" is Arabic for "mighty", and is one the 99 names of God. Non-Arab Muslims will sometimes use this name alone, but Arab Muslims usually will not, as it is of the highest arrogance bordering on blasphemy to name oneself thus, much like an ancient Roman naming himself "Maximus". A more common Arabic name would be Abd al-Azim/Abdul Azim, meaning "servant of the mighty one", as in servant of God.

Sadly cut down by vandals….the tree will return and live on…. National Trust manager said that the stump seemed "healthy" and thought that the tree could possibly regrow in coppiced form, although he added that it would "take a few years to develop into even a small tree and around 150 to 200 years before it is anywhere close to what we have lost". Seeds were also collected from the tree which are to be used to propagate new saplings.

Its kind of accurate. Before american and english dialects diverged, the english spoke more like americans. It was during the industrial revolution that people in Britian saw the rhotic R as commoner speak in a period where folks wanted to seem higher class and so dropped the letter out of alot of pronouciations. Of course the american dialect would have transformed too.

Thats bullshit, accents in Britain have stayed the same. West country accents are still found in North Carolina, and Virginia. The American accent is a result of different immigration groups, such as the Germans, Swedes, Dutch, and in particular the Irish who have a similar sounding pronunciation to americans.

I love that the Americans thought they could film at Hadrian's Wall, thinking it would pass as a Medieval boundary wall or some generic ancient ruin, not knowing that my countrymen would spend decades sneering at them and their American Robin Hood for making it look they teleported from Dover to Northumberland.

@@consciousbeing1188 Yup, great mentality. Worked out swell during World War 2 when the British advised the US to black out the East Coast and the admiral in the charge of the Atlantic didn't like the British so he said no, and so US ships were silhouetted against the lit-up shore. The German U-Boat crews called it 'The Second Happy Time'. And with the US Army, the British told them their doctrine was hopelessly outdated, the Army ignored them, and Rommel thrashed them hard at the Kasserine Pass and they came back begging for advice.
