Yes same guy Howard Hill kind of pioneered the split eye shooting method where you use a single eye to shoot with while using the arrow to help guide the bow to the target or hunting object. One of the few Robin Hood movies to actually have an archer for Robin Hood when they needed it, doing a film from the back, this worked as the actor who played Robin Hood in this was a bigger guy Harold Flynn. It is one archers including myself use to this day in some way or another who use a bow sans any sights for target or in some countries, hunting. I use 95% the exact method of aiming that Howard Hill does. Just prior to this all Target archers shot point of aim using an aiming stick and hunters used either instinctive envisioning a dot/hole with eyes in the spot you want to hit or some type of instinctive gap, modern gap shooting was not really used. Howard Hill kept putting out the stick but he never used it after discovering the Split eye method that can be used for both target and hunting like he wanted that could not be noticed due to then target rules in 1920's and into the 1930's, this was mainly due to how he was stinking as a hunter using instinctive/instinctive gap. Cool part is Howard Hill had some Native in his linage, just the book I have Howard Hills Method of Shooting the Bow and Arrow by Jerry hill never really says how much and I do not think even Jerry his nephew knows.

@@SukieOOO You're looking at it from the wrong way. English history is not New Zealand history, but the History of the New Zealand colony originates in England. So the history of the New Zealand culture and heritage is rooted in England.

@@SukieOOO I don't know how history is generally taught in Australia, nor can I vouch for how it's taught everywhere in the US, but at the high school I went to, it progressed like this: ancient history (Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, then the fall of Rome). Next, we learned about the Anglo-Saxon invasions and the formulation of the English nation, from the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms, Alfred the Great and the formation of the concept of "England". Then we learned about the Norman Conquest and the crystallization of English culture, Chaucer, and the like. Then we suddenly switch to Spain with Columbus' discovery of America and the conquistadors and all that. Then, ZOOM! back to England. We learned about the renaissance, the protestant revolution, Henry VIII, leading to Queen Elizabeth and the Spanish Armada. Around that point we learned about English raids and incursions into America finally leading to Roanoake and the English colonization of Virginia and the Pilgrims. At that point, we're focusing on English and American colonial history concurrently, a bit about Shakespeare, but we discuss English history less and less until we finally get to the American revolution and more or less stop talking about England. So with all that, you sort of see how Americans view our history. We start with the foundation of civilization, leading to the fall of Rome. Then our heritage is bundled up with the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms and finally the English state. We don't really stop tracking that history until the revolution. That's basically how I think we view ourselves. So, from that lens, English history pre-1776 is more or less viewed as also our history.

This doesn't apply to most Americans- Many of our ancestors were not English/British.

They say that one historian believed it was a corruption of his real name (Robert Fitzooth, something weird like that). What I remember reading years ago is that it was a modern spelling of an Old/Middle English surname, Hode. No idea if there's any truth to that. In any case, it's almost certainly not a pun and never was, whether there was any historical Robin Hood or not. The language simply evolved too much, even just between his supposed lifetime and the plays in Shakespeare's day. I mean, there's wordplay in Shakespeare's work that's completely lost on us due to how both spelling and pronunciation have changed since. (Imagine 'oars' being pronounced the same as 'whores' and imagine the potential for puns.) tl;dr: interesting idea, but it's just a coincidence.
