@stevedowdy1
@stevedowdy1 2 жыл бұрын
I can forgive them using Hadrian's wall as a location - it's never actually stated that it is Hadrian's Wall so it's probably supposed to be some other piece of stonework somewhere between Dover and Nottingham (the same way as the forest scenes are filmed in the Republic of Ireland rather than the actual Sherwood Forest). What bugs me with that scene though is that when Azeem asks which way is east Robin points to his LEFT, which means they're walking SOUTH. Which shows that it's not supposed to be Hadrian's Wall since that runs east to west, but it does make their 300 mile hike northwards from Dover to Nottingham in less than a day even more implausible.

I just about threw a tantrum I was so angry 😂 Anyway, I felt compelled to share that for whatever reason!

I once had a book that went into the background of the major stars. It also had a short interview with the director and the stunt coordinator. The stunt coordinator was quoted as saying that he had his heart in his throat for most of the filming of this movie. He had two reasons for this feeling, and they both had to do with Kevin Costner. The first reason was that Kevin Costner insisted on doing as many of his own stunts as possible. In fact, he did all but two of them himself. In fact, he did all but two of them. One was when he was swinging on the rope during the forest fire scene, the rope burned through, and he fell to the ground. The other was when he swung from the roof and went through the window into the sheriff's chapel. In other words, Kevin Costner was actually the one in the catapult when he went over the wall. The other reason was that Kevin Costner had worked with the director, Kevin Reynolds, on an earlier film. This meant that he (Costner) knew how Kevin Reynolds thought and what he'd (Reynolds) would be looking for in certain shots. While they were filming the forest scenes, Kevin Costner would grab a tree branch, lean out over a 30-foot drop (with nothing underneath him), and yell down, "Hey, Kevin, is this more what you wanted!??!". He (Costner) didn't stop at doing it just once; he kept doing it.

I loved this movie as a kid. As an Englishman I've always loved the legend of Robin Hood. This movie gets a lot of stick at times, but the humour is very English pantomime at times which I'm ok with. But one thing I think this movie does greater than most (arguably the best) is how it handles racism. It's not spotlighted, there's genuine child curiosity, offence is not taken, characters are educated by noble action and therefore equal. Lots of modern movies could learn from this.

I really enjoyed watching YOUR reactions to this. The obvious delight and enjoyment is infectious, lol. It has been a while since I've watched this flick but I used to love it so much. The bad thing is, I've watched Robin Hood: Men in Tights so much and more recently, that it was hard to stop comparing and mentally seeing the alternates to the scenes, 😂😂.

I love this film. It's probably my favourite adaptation of the story. Not only is the action great and Alan Rickman giving 100% to the role but I love the fact that each of the outlaws has their time to shine and distinguishing character traits and motives. CAN'T BELIEVE YOU CUT OUT THE EDITING!!!!

33:14 FWIW, I'm English and I _love_ this movie! That said, I'm 40 and, like a couple of you guys, I grew up watching it a number of times. In the UK, I feel like you either grew up with it and love it, or you were old enough when it came out to realise it's a pretty inaccurate/terrible movie, which, objectively speaking, it is, but I don't care, lol. My dad can't stand it, but me and my sister still adore it to this day, haha. I also remember the Brian Adams song held the No.1 song in the UK for like a record number of weeks/months at the time, and so some people were probably sick of hearing it after a while, which perhaps transferred into some people getting tired of the movie too. Great reaction, and discussion, guys! 👍

This puts Robbin Hood: Men in Tights in so much context. I've seen it so many times and thought the only reference to this movie was that Carey Elwes could do an accurate accent

Costner was supposed to train with an accent coach before he started shooting but the shoot for Dances With Wolves went over and he didn't have time. He tried at the beginning. He and the director probably thought it'd be less distracting just to use his regular accent.

I far prefer the 1980s ITV version Robin of Sherwood which Prince of Thieves basically stole from. I could never get into the BBC one you mention. Seemed like it was trying too hard to be modern and 'hip'. But eh it's ok. Just far down on my list of fave robin hood versions.

@@carn9507 Honestly, I was considering watching the new one, bu then I heard what they did to Marian and decided that this was a hard pass. After all, I was stil angry about what they did to Marian in Robin of Sherwood...but at least there I could keep the memory of the great multi-parter where they search for the swords.

Maesters are not a real thing, that's a completely GOT thing and he's an alcoholic friar who by all rights shouldn't have accepted Azeem at all, even if Azeem was helpful, at the time him accepting a Muslim would have been cause enough for him to be a heretic, while still a godly man Tuck clearly doesn't take his position as seriously as other monks or friars, it's highly likely he never bothered to learn much about medicine, he was a brewer mostly.

I'm not sure which order things happened but the moment when "King Richard" charged out yelling that very distinct sound and I made the connection that it was Brian Blessed who played the lead Hawk Man in Flash Gordon was a very exciting day for me.
