Listening to Robin Trower´s "unique" present guitar playing is provoking a non-stop listening habit !

UNMISTAKABLE ROBIN TROWER guitar tone and somewhat sad, lamenting tunes with sexy, bluesy interludes . . . really enjoyed this . . . my only wish? James as vocalist . . . ❤

I remember back in the seventies when he was dismissed in the music media as just another Hendrix impersonator, but to me he always had his own distinctive style. I still play Bridge of Sighs now and again. I think he was a member of Procul Harem in his early career, not sure about that though.

Yes, Robin was a member of Procol Harum - I heard an old interview when he was asked why he would want to leave such a successful group, 'they were a keyboard heavy band, wasn't much room for me to play the stuff I was increasingly writing'. Mind you, what we got when he went solo I honestly don't think anyone would have expected. Was a fan of Procol and have been from the late 60's till now: the man now 79 played an excellent concert Tuesday this week 28/05/24 in Islington, London, he played 5 tracks from this my pal Alan tells me as this is one of the albums I don't have. About to put this right!!

The recording engineering/ production doesn't fo this justice. Maybe what Robin wanted. The jammin in a room sound. But the spaces he leaves, his style deserves better. Great songs but this sounds like a demo.

He played 5 of these tunes on Tuesday this week, on 29/05/24, in an excellent concert he did in Islington, London. For me of the whole show, which of course included some of his classics, I thought 'Wither on the Vine' was quite stunning

@hannibalspice, not the same, I know, but this is the next best thing I would suggest. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j8iiY6p62ODLgps.html A PS to my comment above/below: I thought the final encore 'Birdsong' was another stunning track: how Robin gets quite so much emotion into 5 simple well spaced notes is [for me] quite mesmerising. LOVE the man's music

Bridge of Sighs is truly a seminal event. I'd even go as far as to say a pillar of existence, but you need to expand your horizon. Mr Trower has.

@@Maxid1 it comes down to personal preference. I like the red hot guitar and solos vis a vie Bridge of Sighs. Not the slow balad type in his later stuff. The same with Joe Satriani, his album the extremist is great, his later stuff is not worth the money.
@Maxid1
@Maxid1 6 ай бұрын
@@swi9945 It is preference. Not a Satriani fan, but I like Robin Trowers entire catalog. That said, I go back to Bridge of Sighs far more than any of his other work. It's been part of me ever since my first listen. If there was one album, or even just one song I could listen to for the rest of my life, it would be Bridge of Sighs.
