This is the raw vision/sound of an interview me and Chris Murray conducted in Sydney in late 2010 for the now-defunct cable show The Movie Club. I posted the footage a few months ago because I've always liked how it showed the low-key Robin Williams behind the sometimes manic persona I'd seen in other interviews. He was a lovely guy, very happy to chat afterwards and was instrumental in arranging for me to visit his hero, Mort Sahl, in Mill Valley, California, for another interview. He will be missed.

i've never seen an interview of him that was this realistic. I figure this is what ue was really like, a friendly, quiet guy that was able to make anyone laugh. He was my idol as I grew up. You will be missed Robin, RIP

Yes...this is what he was like before super stardom. There is alot of old stuff out there...specifically an Oprah interview in her beginning as well. Saw him at the Royal Oak Music Theatre right after his "Mork" days. There was NOBODY funnier. You would probably really appreciate him with De Niro in "Awakenings".

The eyes give it away. My mom passed away this June from complications related to cortico basal ganglia degenerative dementia--the rarest form--which manifests much like Lewey body, and her eyes too had a heavy-laden look about them. LB is a devastating type of dementia and how Robin must have suffered as he grew terrified of far worse problems that lay before him. God bless this much-loved man; an American treasure who is missed every day. He is a roaming heavenly spirit now.

It is so good to hear someone talk about Lewys Body Dementia, the cause of death. Not drinking or drugging, just a disease that can only be diagnosed with an autopsy. I'm so sorry about your Mum. She has peace and sometimes that's all we can hang on to to get us through. God bless and keep her.

Even though it's been almost 7 years, knowing this man is gone honestly still hurts. Being a 90's kid, (born in 1984), he was in so many of my favorite childhood movies. He was a sailor, an eccentric but lovable bat with a radar on the side of head, a genie, a nanny, a boy turned man who can fly. RIP Robin Williams. You are still so sorely missed. #GenieIsFree 🧞‍♂️🧞‍♂️💙💙

I get a little sadder everyday...I need some distance from these interviews. I wonder if on TV, say, if Craig Ferguson would've "broken the spell", and broached the subject of suicide and addiction (an unreasonable, unfunny leap, I know)...I imagine Robin would have made a joke of it; but if someone, a nation? could've accepted him as not being, not having to be funny, but still loved, would he have seen himself differently, not so lonely?

These gentlemen provided a GREAT interview space for Robin Williams to be himself...and if HE CHOSE to bring in comedy - but was so low key - it was not required. This is one of his best interviews ever - with 2 people who did not act like sycophants...but 2 guys who appreciated Robin and cared enough to ask well thought out unique questions of this precious man.

Great to have seen him from this calm side, too! Intelligent, reflected and kind. It is most of all the human being Robin Williams we are sad to have lost, more than the actor and the comedian. In most of his movies, he was able to let his personality shine through the role figure. That's what makes him so outstanding! Thank you, and bless you, Robin!

Robin seemed like a person that cared about world events and its people....I turned the nightly news off 2 years ago and no longer worry about the daily BS that is broadcast. Too many wheels grinding in your head will not give you a restful peace. Robin Williams is the only celebrity I cried over when he passed away. The day his death was announced it was raining where I lived. I imagine those were God's tears. An angel sent to us in human form to save us from our sadness, then taken back to Heaven to entertain those who have left us. RIP, Robin, and thank you for everything. God bless you.

He was the first celebrity I cried over too. Like really broke down like a child crying. My father was awful of a man. Highly abusive and toxic nearly killed me and my whole family one night and then tried to kill me at 5 years old. I saw Mrs. Doubtfire and the fact that his character dressed up as an elderly woman just to be with his kids where my father didn't do shit for us. I just wanted Robin as my father instead. My therapist later suggested I use Robin as a way to think of him as my father to heal from my trauma throughout childhood. My father has nothing on Robin Williams. I would've loved to have him as my real dad. He doesn't seem like the kind of dad that would beat his kid senseless into unconsciousness like mine.

One heck of an actor but we as fans didn't know what he going through. I watched all his films and his stage comedies yet we didn't know. Like all of us, he had personal troubles trying to reach out ( to you or to anyone as an outlet but i think he found no one to ease him his troubles) - nobody listened. To everyone who think they're all alone, remember you have choices! If nobody listens to you, get out and be in a different environment, leave anything that would remember who you were and go somewhere and start all over and be anonymous and live life to the fullest.

Robin's greatest gift was his mind and his heart! His personality and his talent came from having a brilliant mind! So fast paced and creative! He was like a one of those money counting machines just spitting out incredible material every second! Parkinson's disease would of stole everything he loved from him! The idea of not being able to do what he loved! The frustration from not being able to do it! And then not being able to make the people around you happy! Robin lived to make others happy by doing what he could do best! In his life he suffered from severe depression when he could do the things he loved! Could you imagine how painful that must of been for him? Knowing that soon you could possibly have it all stolen from you by your own body! It's so upsetting to think he couldn't bare to see those days come. I will always love him dearly though for the gift of life he gave to every single one of us! In my days of depression he is here for me. He gave his laugh and smile for us and in return he has my heart. God bless him

This man is of huge importance to me on a personal level and growing up with a mother who suffered and still does to a degree with terrible bouts of depression, Robin Williams would often light the way along a very dark tunnel with his brilliance, great charisma and optimistic movies. Great interview really shows how friendly Robin Williams was, and honestly i think that's the most important quality a person can have and that's something to be proud of. Oh plus he gave us Death to Smoochy :>

Amazing man -- incredible loss. Even a few months prior to his passing, he was still spot on.

Thanks for posting this wonderful interview! Robin Williams is still around in the stratosphere somewhere, radiating good will and searing honesty, and that ineffable quality no-one else has. When my mom was dying of brain cancer, part of my job, at her request, was to come up with a comedy per day. Then she experienced Robin Williams and it didn't matter if it was funny or not. Eternally in his debt. I don't know what I would do if I discovered I had Parkinson's with Lewes bodies, with my identity so invested in the compulsion to present reality as curved space. My mom (Eva) survived the camps in WW2 and her humour was often pretty black; a total survival mechanism. A cesspool of consciousness indeed. Lucky to be touched by both those guys. Glad she missed Trump, so glad she found her alter-ego at the last minute.

i love Robin's honestly, calmness and strength of character here. He looks very comfortable with the interviewers that he didn't seem to switch into roles as much as he does in other interviews, and really responded to every question with intelligence and wit (not just humor) . The conversation is so engaging.Thank you to all involved for making this available to us.

I’m here watching this interview only to hear Robin Williams voice and see his face. He is sorely missed by many of his true fans since as far back as “Mork and Mindy” 😭 The only dad I knew when I was a kid was abusive so I wouldn’t claim my stepdad at that time to be my dad. When another kid or someone would ask me who my dad was...My answer would be Robin Williams. He’s the only man at the time that kept me laughing and made me feel safe. Yeah, a man in a television screen kept me feeling safer than I felt living in the home that I was living in. I used to think Jesus was too good to be true, but then later in life He taught me just how true and Real He is and how good it is know Him on a personal level. I pray to get to meet Robin Williams in the Heavens one day. I miss him so much!!! #LAUGHTERISMEDICINETOTHESOULBUTALSOAWAYTOHIDEYOURPAIN 💔🥲🙏🏼💕

This interview has an authentic feel to it, like they just happened to have a camera capturing a conversation at the bar. You can tell he's still trying to be funny though cause its sorta expected of him but still great.
