I can't thank you enough for creating, then posting this! Your warm, good-hearted nature shines through, and your footage displays the beauty of these bucolic settings. I especially enjoyed how you said: 'to admire but not envy' the way of life. I want to thank you again for taking the time to give us this little gem!

Such a Sweet lady to do this video. Informative. Didn't know a lot of these things. We have a couple of Mennonite bakeries which are Very busy & make a lot of different kinds of foods which we enjoy especially at Thanksgiving & Christmas time here in Augusta, Ga. Where we say hope you're ' Fortunate ' enough to be able to get a ticket or two to our world famous Augusta National Golf Tournament. Hopefully we will be able to host in November. ! ☺💝

You're fortunate to live near Amish people, Robin! When I lived in southern Indiana, I visited an Amish town in northern Indiana several times, Shipshewana. It was like going back in time. I went to a quilt show there and I was amazed at the creativity that went into those quilts! And they were all cut and sewn by hand. It was fun to visit all the different Amish shops. Strolling around an Amish town in the evening is wonderful!

I moved from city life to East Holmesville about 3 years ago and I Love the peace and quiet. Berlin Elementary has the best teachers ever ! I've always been fascinated with the Amish home life. If not for my love of big bathtubs, hot running water and central air-conditioning, I think I could have enjoyed the rest :) I'm in upstate NY and we have some old Shaker community buildings and museums here. They were a single/celibate religion, and as you might imagine, they became extinct very quickly :). But the life was very similar, and the crafts and wood-workings are perfection.

although most of this information is correct, I feel as though I must correct the part about the beards. As my Grandpa is Amish, he's explained to me that men can shave their beards until they are baptized into the church. It just happens that many of the men get baptized and get married very close to the same time.
@greenshp5 жыл бұрын
Actually, I've studied this quite a bit: it varies from community to community. In some, the men start growing a beard at marriage. In others, they start at baptism. There are some where the men grow a short beard and trim it upon baptism, and upon marriage let it grow freely w/o being trimmed. It all varies from group to group.

Of course Amish people are beautiful! My question is who does responsible clean up horses pooped from roads? What about horses pooping on farm product while plowing or other equipment during unsafe eating from farm products? This in response to some of the negative comments farther down. We were involved with alternative news sources that were asked to go to Blande co. Virginia & report on a " puppy farm" . When we talked to the amish that lived there, they said yes there were 2 families of amish (no children) who moved in 6 or 7 months ago but they do not associate with us. They said they only met once and never heard of them before. They "churched by themselves" supposedly. Within 2 weeks after the arrest they moved. Simply vanished. We trailed long & hard as journalists. Long story short, the trail finally led to fbi & cia & notably blm, which usually operates more visibly in the west. When we got hot on there trail, they got nasty, making very severe threats.We talked to dog dealers & "puppy farms", (they coined the word puppy mills to give it a factory sound.) Sinister. All of these dealers acted nervous because they we under threats not to talk. The money trail actually appeared to come from overseas. Likely London. We never got clear to the bottom of it. But all this to say that it appeared to be a very sinister plot to stage the plain peoples and turn us neighbor against neighbor and attack our independent lifestyles. It appeared they were not really amish but moved in for a few months and dressed like amish. They said they were rarely seen and when they were they made a point to be seen with dogs. They said they never saw "all that many dogs." It appeared they were paid actors to tarnish decent independent people. This appears to be going on in many different realms & areas. Just asking you to "think about it."
