Two questions: when buy you need the cash available . Where do you keep the cash available? Is there s core position ? Coz transferring from your bank takes time to deliver? Is there a minimum purchase?
@EverydayInvesting
@EverydayInvesting 5 жыл бұрын
Cash sitting in your Robinhood account that is not invested is held in what's called your "buying power." This is basically where your cash is held while waiting to be invested. So when you buy it will pull from your buying power, not your bank account. There is no minimum purchase amount, except for the price of the stock itself.

Thank you so much for this video! Sometimes I see people naming their own price for a share when they go to buy, but I don't think its a limit order, there are probably people just selling their shares for less than the current market value yet more then what those folks originally paid for it. Do you know how I can do this? I was trying to do this on M1 finance too. Thank you!

Thank for your informative videos. Now, I have a question: why would you want to buy at higher price on Stop Loss or Stop Limit ?
@EverydayInvesting
@EverydayInvesting 6 жыл бұрын
No problem. You are right, for buying this is not an order type that is very common. The only reason I could think why someone would put in an order to buy at higher price would be for fear of missing out. Maybe they are on the fence on a particular stock but if it suddenly starts to take off they don't want to miss out on further gains.

In the end of the day isn't "limit order" the same as all? For example the stop loss... if I'm waiting for it to be above a certain price... can't I just set it at a higher price with limit order ? so it can buy ? The limit order can be for a maximum price or lower... (I don't want to buy it now at 5.45 but when if it hits 5.75, Can't I just set the limit price to buy at 5.75 in the first place ?) And same thing for stop limit order ? Can't I just place a limit order at a specific price ? (Low or high.) to buy/sell.

can you explain the trailing stop order?
@PRANKurFACE
@PRANKurFACE 4 жыл бұрын
The trailing stop order monitors a stocks fluctuations set at a limit you choose. For example if a Dell Stock drops from $20 to $15 your limit can be set at anything above that. If you set it at $5 it will 'trail' behind it at $5 above the stock price. So the 'trail is at $25 and $20. Now once the stock rises above the trail mark it will force a buy. So basically once the stock price that's going downward starts to rise above the 'trail' it forces a buy.

Great video thanks question for you - on the limit order for both sell and buy does it allow to chose a number of shares you want to say sell, like a market order does? i.e. I have 50 shares in company ABC market price is $10 and I put a sell limit order at $12 does it give me the option to specify only sell 25 shares or will it sell all 50 shares at $12? and does it do it for when you put a limit buy order?

I have a question about buying stocks at market price. If the price goes up within the buy range (I believe this is 5%) and I have less funds available to me, will the transaction go through? Example: I buy stock X at market price of $100 on Saturday and I have $102 in my account. On Monday, if the stock is worth $104 will I be in the hole 2 bucks or is the transaction canceled?
@EverydayInvesting
@EverydayInvesting 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Bertrand, that is a great question. I have never encountered this scenario on Robinhood yet, as most market orders will generally fluctuate up or down by just a few cents. But in the event the market price rises above your available buying power at the time your order goes through, I believe it will cancel as you won't have the funds to cover the purchase. In your example, if you bought a stock at the market price of $100 on Friday (with $102 of buying power) and on Monday the stock price rose to $104, you will still have bought the stock at $100 but it would now be worth $4 more than what you bought it for.

If buy a stock right "while the market closed" using the market order type, the stock price now is $1 but as soon as the market opens the price moved to $2. in this case what price I will be charged ? also there is checkbox for "This order should only execute during normal market hours" what is the difference if I check it or not? thanks a lot for ur great video
@EverydayInvesting
@EverydayInvesting 5 жыл бұрын
If you use market order type it will buy at the price when the market opens. So if it opens at $2 it will buy it at $2. That checkbox basically means it will only execute the trade between normal trading hours which is 6:30am-1pm PDT. Robinhood also offers extended trading hours which is from 1-3pm PDT.

For market order, is there an option for "until cancelled" or do I only have the option of "good for day"? If there is an option for "until cancelled", how do I select it?
@EverydayInvesting
@EverydayInvesting 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, when you place an order on Robinhood you'll have the option to make it either "Good-til-Canceled" or "Good-for-Day." This choice will appear during the final step of placing your order 👍
@lerinhar
@lerinhar 4 жыл бұрын
@@EverydayInvesting thank you for the reply but I tried doing so and message I get is swipe up for "good for day". For some reason Robinhood is just not giving me that option under marker order. @lerinhar I think I just figured out the reason. It seems that the "good-til-cancelled" option is only available for limit orders, stop orders, and stop limit orders. Do you have a video of what is Buying Power?
@EverydayInvesting
@EverydayInvesting 6 жыл бұрын
I do not. But basically buying power is simply how much money you currently have available to invest. For example after you sell a stock it will take 2 days for the sell to clear before the proceeds from the sell are ready to be reinvested. Once the 2 days has passed the funds then go back to your buying power. Now if you do the free upgrade to Robinhood Instant, money from sells will be instantly credited back to your buying power. I'll do a video on Robinhood Instant soon.

Yes, you definitely can. The limit order is best if you're looking to trade stocks in the short term. For long term buy and hold investors, the market order may be preferred, as the difference of a few dollars wouldn't make much of a difference over the long term 👍

Reason to Stop loss, you want the price to drop even further, but regrets if it actually rises; you rather cut the losses and just take the deal.

Hey my order status is still queued and good for day. If I cancel that order. Does that order money go back to my buying power right away?? Thanks

Hey Juan. Yes, that is correct. As long as you have an order open that money will be temporarily held from your buying power. But as soon as you cancel an open order the hold on those funds will be immediately removed and they will instantly appear back in your buying power 👍

All I heard was, “lets automate this.” There’s so much potential for a few machine learning algorithms here. Thanks for the video man, I definitely learned a lot more about Robinhood! Best, -\Float.

Hey man i set limit orders a couple of times on doge coins , it passed my limit price like 5 times but never excused my order. Why didn’t it buy even when it’s passing my limit i set it to Example: i set to 0.003559. It landed on that like 5 times but is constantly going up and down how come it won’t buy it at that price?

Hmmm, I would think there may have been limit orders that were placed by other users before yours that had priority to get filled first. That's usually the reason a limit order may not get filled immediately when a price is reached. But if it still doesn't execute after a while I would try cancelling and placing a new limit order, in case this was a glitch.

from what i understand of rombinhood limit orders only buy at the exact value, so its hard to do with volatile orders. loss orders will buy/sell at the nearest possible price once triggered

Instead of saying "order types" on the top right, it says "limit order"

Hmmm, I am not sure why yours doesn't have the order types option. I just checked mine and I still have the "order types" on the top right with the 4 options. I would make sure your app is up to date and maybe reinstall it if necessary. If it still doesn't show I would contact their customer support so they can help you.

You did a great job explaining. Unfortunately, it is still overcomplicated. That's Robinhood's fault. Couldn't they just use basic old Market-Limit-Stop? You know, Buy Limit, Stop Loss and Take Profit?
