I removed this video a few months ago but I decided to edit and resubmit it as I believe this has some valuable lessons for some students.

By far the best bricklayer I've watched on KZfaq. Not just about thrashing down bricks to a line, so much skill and minimum movements, love watching him.

Rob, You are a true craftsman! After 22 years of being in the bricklayers Union I left due to the lack of pride and concern. All they do is push for quantity not quality. Glad to see that there are still real craftsman who take pride in what they do. I hope you keep posting videos. Maybe they will inspire a new generation of real bricklayers.

Agreed. Great freaking work. So odd to see a trammel. We used to take time to lay arches like this, but the Mexican Mason's style has corrupted our pride for speed. We run the field wild and mark the wall, cut it, then lay the rowlock. But we lose quality. Used to do A work, now we settle for B+.

rob songer I’m sure there is. I will keep watching for sure. Wish I could find a quality brickie local to me. Clients I’m working for have had 3 so far one was excellent but unreliable but the other two are clowns. It’s come to my only option as a carpenter is to redo the porch brickwork as it’s so poor, so that I can make the porch.

No disrespect but back in the early 50s my grandad and mates did most decorative brickwork daily, his foreman would kick it down if not perfect, it made them craftsmen, money is the driver now, sites thrown up, simple structures with no imagination or longevity, bloody accountants running the show who are clueless desk jockeys lining their pockets, rant over, lovely work as usual Rob 👏

How do you determine the height of the timber thats resting leval on the toothed brickwork,,,and the length of the trammell thats striking the ramp,,,,also the distance the trammell is from the peir ,,,
@johnbryant65724 жыл бұрын
I've never had the pleasure of having to build one of these but I'm sure I could do it.i done a lot of radius and segmental arch work.just set up a radius with a trammle and deduct the thickness of the tiles then the brick on edge.putting the bricks up on a 10 mill piece of wood before cutting is what iv Been doing for years.i buy engineer's white chalk to mark my cuts easier than sharpening a pencil.but nice work thanks.

Rob . I am building a circular ramp feature into a garden wall without the tile course The radius is 975mm ( 13 courses ). I have cut the radius ok .👍 Was going to cut nip the joints on my brick on edge course so they are consistent 10mm but struggling because it is literally the sidth of my cutter blade. At what diameter would you consider cutting the voussoirs or leaving them with a slight wedge on the perp joint ?
@andybrown52353 жыл бұрын
Appologies for the miss spellings 😱
@robsonger13 жыл бұрын
Oh...Good question I try to cut mine all the time but as in this video the radius is 900mm, I wouldn't go any tighter without cutting
@andybrown52353 жыл бұрын
Going to see how it looks without cutting on a template. I dont think I will get the accuracy on the horizontal face joint with such a small cut I think this diameter (900/975) is about borderline for cutting wrdges or going with full bricks Thanks for the reply Rob keep up the good work 👌 👍

Jean-Maxime Daniel I have used lines several times in the past, especially if the pier is battered (sloped) when I use lines I also keep a regular check on alignment with my level. I have a couple of videos of me doing this but not on KZfaq.
