I love the Cranberries - I worked in Dublin in the late 80s - I recall a story from an Irish mate that her school principal used to get the whole school to stop and listen to her sing in morning assemblies and I can easily believe that - her singing is just so hauntingly beautiful, so pure and unique - and such pitch perfect delivery. No one comes close - so sad she left us too early...

As a music teacher, watching you two listen to the guitar solo side by side is my very favorite part of this video. The way you’re physicalizing the different elements of the music is fantastic; one of you bopping to the beat (as you then reveal is your background with rap/hip-hop) while the other sways smooth to the spacey guitar/synth solo. Your appreciation for the structure of the track… honestly made me tear up. When I dream of the kinds of music consumers my students will be when they grow up, I pray they end up like this. Forever seeking to expand their horizons, find meaning in music they didn’t previously understand, and most of all, APPRECIATING DOLORES’S CASUAL OPERATIC BADASSERY IN ALL ITS GLORY 😂😂😂 earnestly, NEVER stop doing this!

It always gets me how good the chorus is. The way she uses her voice to accentuate the word she's saying. Like the part where she says "wrapped around your finger" her voice literally goes up and down to sort of sound like it's going in a circle (wrapping around something). This song has been stuck in my head for weeks.

Linger was The Cranberries second single, and first huge hit. Dreams was the first single, and it was rereleased as a single after the success of Dreams. I was starting out in college at the time, and I remember Linger being everywhere at the time. The music video is great as well, with a film noir aesthetic. The guitar style is heavily inspired by the first album's producer, Stephen Street, who produced a lot of work for The Smiths.

Your right on when you open your self up to different types of music you can understand and really appreciate the art of the songs. Cranberries guitarist Noel Hogan wrote the music for this song before Dolores O'Riordan joined the band. Originally, it had lyrics written by the group's first singer, a bloke named Niall Quinn. When O'Riordan auditioned for the band, she had some ideas for the song, and after she was hired, she wrote her own set of lyrics, turning it into a song of regret based on a soldier she once fell in love with. Dolores O'Riordan wrote this song about her feelings following the breakup with her first boyfriend, the soldier who broke her heart. She said the song is about "the way I reacted to infatuation."

This song is from their first album where Zombie was from their second which was better in my opinion. Their third and fourth albums were faster and some harder stuff so check out some songs like: "Salvation", " "Free to Decide", "Just my Imagination", and "Promises"

I never realized the words were so sad. O'Riordan's voice is beautiful. So great hearing both of your appreciation for many artists. God bless you!

Great observation Amber: The way words are enunciated add distinction to the vocals. You have made this statement before & you are correct. It adds yet another value to appreciate. Thank you!

Another group you should listen to is The Sundays. I think you will love the female singer’s voice in that group as well. Two songs I recommend are “Here’s Where the Story Ends” and “Wild Horses.”

There is a live version of Zombie where you can appreciate the four of them onstage making live music, it may not be block as much s the official version.
