The woman backing up Steve is Chaka Khan. Take the dive into her early work from the 1970's like "Tell Me Something Good" (with Rufus) and "I'm Every Woman" Yeah, she did it before Whitney; it was her first solo hit without Rufus. Then her 1980's songs like "I Feel for You" and "Ain't Nobody" (also with Rufus). "I Feel for You" may help you understand why people sing her name. "Chaka Khan Chaka Khan" I think it might be only on the official music video and that's the one you should listen to. It's a cover of a Prince song but that "Chaka Khan" opening is why I think of it as her song.

Also her song Ain't Nobody which I'm sure you would know without even knowing that you know it. The rhythm guitar of Higher Love was performed by Nile Rogers, who you might know from the 70s band Chic (check out their songs "Good Times" and "Le Freak"), and the Daft Punk song Get Lucky.

As a solo artist, he's had numerous hit singles and continues to collaborate with multiple artists today -- most recently in 2020 with Steely Dan. Winwood was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Traffic in 2004.

As Winwood reminisced, "My earliest memories are of the music in church and of my aunts and uncles singing the beautiful old hymns. 'Higher Love' is a generation past that, when things were not so much taken for granted, so that one has to plea, 'Bring me a higher love,' and the lines are all trying to explain why there must be higher love. A modern hymn, you might call it." Armed with spirituality, the resulting track became his breakthrough solo hit, flying high to No. 1 on August 29, 1986. The tune went on to receive two Grammys in 1987 for Record of the Year (against Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer" and Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love") and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.

Steve Winwood's discography is as long as your arm. He was part of notable groups like Traffic, Blind Faith, and The Spencer Davis Group. He became a household name in the 80s with hits like "Higher Love", "Valerie", "Back in the High Life", "The Finer Things", and perhaps his most famous song, "Roll With It".

Winwood has been performing at a very high level since he was a teenager in the 60s. This song came out in '86 and it along the album"Back In The High Life" were monsters. Higher love won at least 2 Grammys.

While You See A Chance is Winwood's best. Also check out Can't Find My Way Home by Blind Faith with Winwood singing lead vocals.

Winwood is a musical genius. One of my alltime favorites from the 60s to 80's. My head just flooded with so many memories of listening to his music.

Gimme Some Lovin... That's Steve Winwood's highest achievement. In fact, he's a pretty super duper musician.

Great rabbit hole to get lost in, he was in the Spencer Davis Group, Blind Faith , Traffic. ( Low Spark of high heeled Boys) Little Stevie Winwood is a very talented singer/ Keyboardist. He’s always been known for having some soul.

This song is SUMMER. Driving, windows down, radio blasting.... Oh, and - "Chaka Khan, let me rock you, let me rock you, Chaka Khan, let me rock you 'cuz I feel for you" *was* that summer. Good times.

❤❤❤ you guys are killing it today! I was starting to worry. Can't beat Steve Winwood, with the infamous Chaka Khan on backup vocals. If you want to dive deeper, he was also in Traffic & he was in the Spencer Davis Group. 🥰😍

So 80's with all the synthesizers, especially the horns. Plus Nile Rodgers played lead guitar.
