Madness we're one of the biggest bands in the UK during the 1980s. Loads of hits, try "Baggy Trousers" "House of Fun" "Night boat to Cairo" "One Step Beyond" "Driving in my Car". This one was written by Labbi Sifre and originally recorded by him in the seventies (he also makes a cameo appearance in this video). Much love from England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

They're still together & STILL making music! Their catalog is SO deep! They were named the OFFICIAL band of England for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee! Also, they're the ONLY band who have been allowed to play on the roof of Buckingham Palace! Fantastic band.

Hi Amber and Jay, this reached No. 4 in the UK Charts back in late 1981 and I actually bought it as a 12" Single on Vinyl, it was superb and I loved it and them as back then, Madness were my favourite group! They were brilliant as they were always so quirky as a Two Tone Ska Group but almost all their released singles were different from each other as they never really stuck to just one style, they constantly and consistently changed and that was the reason they managed to keep going unlike most of their contemporaries who split up within a couple of years whereas Madness are still going to this day with an 'Almost Unchanged Line Up' as they still contain 6 out of the 7 original members, the only Original Band Member that no longer plays with them is 'Cathal "Chas Smash" Smyth'! All the other 'Past Members' mentioned on Wikipedia are members that joined when someone left for a period of time thus stepping in but none of them were Originals aside from 'Chas Smash' because in the title of a track on their 2nd Album, Absolutely, they were known as 'Return Of The Las Palmas 7'! This 2nd Album, Absolutely, was classed by many people, and still is, as their best Studio Album ever and deservedly so too, as far as Album Chart Position, it reached No.2 as did their very 1st Studio Album too titled 'One Step Beyond' which was also an incredible album with fantastic tracks also! It contains their most popular tracks ever released as singles in general, even though they didn't reach so high in the charts as 'It Must Be Love' and 'House Of Fun' but they had the most quirky Music Videos and were an absolute Smash Hit at the time! Those tracks being 'Embarrassment' and 'Baggy Trousers' which was loved by almost all age groups, including my Grandma who wasn't normally a fan of my choice 8n music, nor were my parents, however, even my Mum liked Baggy Trousers as did my Grandma and both of 5hem had a good old chuckle at the Music Video when they watched it being played on 'Top Of The Pops'. Over here in the UK, we didn't have access to such things as MTV as until April of 1982 we only had access to just the 3 TV Channels, which were BBC1, BBC2 and ITV also known by many different names as there were Regional TV Companies Such as Thames in London and the South East of the Country, The Midlands was covered by Central (East and West) for the East and West Midlands, then you had Yorkshire which covered Yorkshire and many Northern Regions, Tyne Tees in the North East. They are all I remember but I am getting side tracked anyway! Now getting back to Madness and their fantastically Quirky Music Videos, including 'Driving In My Car'!

Madness plays Ska not Reggae the two are similar but not quite the same Madness are an English ska and pop band from Camden Town, North London, who formed in 1976. One of the most prominent bands of the late 1970s and early 1980s two-tone ska revival, they continue to perform with six of the seven members of their original line-up. Madness's most successful period was from 1980 to 1986, when the band's songs spent a total of 214 weeks on the UK Singles Chart. (UB40 shared the same number of weeks, the largest for any British group in the decade, but over a longer period.)

Madness were a very successful band in the UK and remain popular to this day as a live act. Plenty of good songs already suggested in the comments I've read. I'd add One Better Day and their 90s comeback song, Lovestruck.

That was Labi Siffre at the end. He wrote the song and released the original version of it. I'd love it if you reacted to his song "Something Inside So Strong". It is a beautiful, powerful protest song against apartheid in South Africa. It's amazing ❤

Hi, you two. It's Andrew Erroch fae Paisley in Scotland here again. Now, this is definitely a wonderful rabbit hole you will want to go down time and time again. I've loved Madness right from their very first hit, which may still be my favourite of theirs, but there are so many. They have an iconic compilation album that was a huge hit too, called Complete Madness. I'm glad they are still touring and will be back at my workplace, The OVO Hydro in Glasgow, on the 1st of December this year, after I've been in Thailand for the whole month of November. That first brilliant hit in 1979 was 'The Prince' about Jamaican ska singer Prince Buster. Æx 🙏

Madness rocks. They definitely have a quirky way of making the viewer smile. If you haven't yet watch some Thompson Twins. I to the Gap, You Take Me Up, Hold Me Now, Lies!, Doctor! Doctor!, Lay Your Hands on Me, If You Were Here ( from the Sixteen Candles soundtrack), Love On Your Side, In the Name of Love, Get that Love, Who Can Stop the Rain?, We are Detective, King for a Day. One of those tunes where the cover far surpasses the original. I'm soooo glad you came back to Madness! The North London Nutty Boys have a special place in my heart. Please give "Baggy Trousers" a try? A quirky piece of North London ska music. Plenty of horns, plenty of weird, plenty to smile about!😊

I was a young kid in the 70s, so grew up with the Labi Siffre 1971 original version of this song (I still own my parents' copy of the single!) which he wrote. I think Madness' cover version is brilliant, inspired and probably better than the original, which rarely happens; it certainly remains the "definitive" version to most people. Love the way Labi appears at the end of the video too. Top reaction, guys!
