Loretta Lynn always seemed to make her own rules. Her song, The Pill, is exactly what you think it is about and the uproar it caused was worth every minute. We were just moving into the Women's Movement and the pill made it possible. Really hope you will react to it as it is pure Loretta Lynn and pure woman power!!

Lorretta is as real and genuine as it gets. A poor girl raised in the back wilderness of Kentucky during the depression no less. She wrote her own songs out of experience. Fist city was one of them. I wrote this on an older post. Crystal Gayle is Loretta's sister. You MUST listen to her. Her most popular songs are "talking in his sleep and "don't it make my brown eyes blue" She did a duet with Gary Morris called "making up for lost time" He is someone you need to listen to, he is trained in Opera but he sings country. He was in the lead role of "Les Miserables" on Broadway. A couple of my favorite songs are "100% chance of rain" "velvet chains" "anything goes" i can't remember if "mamma you can't give me no whoopin'" was a song released or if I just love it, it's cute. I thought Kitty Wells was called the Queen of Country Music so I researched…Starting in the 1950s, Kitty Wells, known as "The Queen of Country Music," recorded hit after hit at a time when women didn't have hits in country music. When she performed, Wells delivered the goods with a country twang and a supple, powerful voice that reached right to the back of the house.

My parents played country and even backed her up when she first got started. I saw Loretta back in the 90’s and reminded her and she asked me “How’s yer Mana and them?” It made my day that she remembered them. One more thing- that “guitar on his lap” is actually something different. What that guy was playing was a “pedal steel guitar”. My brother Mark Ferguson, was a top pedal steel player as well as my step dad, Buzz Evans. Mark played w Mickey Gilley who had 17 number 1 country hits. Mark was w Gilley for over 7 years, until my brothers untimely death in 1992. A pedal steel is a very intricate instrument, some have 2 neck’s, 10 foot pedals & 4 knee levers- Like Mark & Buzz played.🎵

During the 1960s and '70s, there were three women who redefined what it meant to be a female country superstar; Dolly and Loretta, both of whom you've featured on your channel, and the other was Tammy Wynette, whose biggest hits included "Stand by Your Man", "I Don't Want to Play House", "Your Good Girl's Gonna Go Bad" and "D I V O R C E".

When I was a kid in the late 70s/early 80s, my favorite show was The Dukes of Hazzard. It was quite a popular show, so popular that many country superstars of the day made guest appearances (usually to do a musical number at the end). The list of stars included Donna Fargo, Hoyt Axton, The Oak Ridge Boys (twice), Roy Orbison, Buck Owens, Mel Tillis, Tammy Wynette, and Dottie West. They were so enthused to have Loretta Lynn (a huge fan of the show) on board that they built an ENTIRE EPISODE around her. No other real-life star got that VIP treatment by the show. That says something. P.S. "Ode to Billy Joe" was by Bobbie Gentry.

Great artist and song choice, you guys. And I'm glad you chose a live version -- those musicians are first class, especially the pedal steel guitar player (the one that's on his lap). Hey, it's great to repeat an artist, but there are some great one's you haven't gotten to once yet. Try Laura Nyro -- please, pretty please--("Eli's comin" and "Stoned Soul Picnic") and Phoebe Snow ("Poetry Man") and Grace Jones ("Pull Up to my Bumper"), Patty Smith ("Because the Night"). Try 'em. They aren't country, but they're all great. Keep up the positive vibes! We all need 'em!

Another female Country music star from the early-1950s that you might want to react to, is Kitty Wells. In 1952, she recorded her hit song, "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels". She recorded numerous hits in the 1950s and 1960s. Kitty Wells had a music career that spanned over six decades. She is an inductee in the Country Music Hall Of Fame. Kitty Wells died of a stroke in 2012, at the age of 92.

I'm just seeing this and Ms Loretta passed away the other day so I thought I'd share this little story about her. I had the honor to meet Ms. Loretta, in the mid 90's. While it was a brief chat I told her how she inspired me as a male. She simply replied how could she inspire a young man in his mid 20's. I said well I've grown up listening to your music seen the movie about your life and all that type stuff, but your song You ain't Woman Enough describes the kind of women I want in my life. Her reply was well if they ain't willing to fight for ya they ain't worth havin. Rest well Ms. Loretta you have more than earned your place in the heavens.

@moon lite I've noticed similar non action to bands like Cheap Trick, Foreigner and a whole collection of 60s artists. Groups with multiple #1s, scores of top tens are ignored while minor groups are given 2nd 3rd and 4th listens. Guessing you have to be a Patron to get a song reviewed and they all ask for the same things over and over.

I'm sure a lot of people mentioned her but Tammy Wynette was one of the famous country singers mostly back around the late 60's 70's era. She was also married to George Jones who was another "Biggie" in country music...he is pretty amazing too! "Stand By Your Man" was one of her most famous songs and went to no. 1 on the country music singles chart after its release. Sadly, Tammy passed away on April 6, 1998 😔

Loretta is a true country girl, and one of the best women in the country music industry ever! My recommendation this time is Loretta's song "The Pill." Ok, I got to add in a shout out for Loretta Lynn's little sister, Crystal Gale. She was quite a few years younger than Loretta. They have Cherokee Indian heritage and both share beautiful high cheekbones, and dark hair, but vastly different singing styles which probably reflects how the family was more prosperous when Crystal Gale came along. But I love Crystal Gale's music and she was a big star in her own right! She had many hits, some huge. My very favorite song of hers is so pertinent to today, called "Ready for the Times to Get Better". But also check out "This is My Year for Mexico", "Somebody Loves You", "Talking in Your Sleep" and many others. Oh, and has anyone mentioned she has hair down to her ankles? 😀
