This was their first Top 40 hit in the US, in 1974. A year later, "Bohemian Rhapsody" came out, and the rest is history. I recommend "You're My Best Friend" for your next one. For your next Meat Loaf song, I recommend "I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)".

I disagree. I was around sixteen when that came out and was seriously besotted with my new blonde blue-eyed girlfriend with the face of an angel and the figure of Ursula Andres, whilst the morals of an uninhibited she-devil. It was winter (freezing cold and raining constantly) and the only place we could get it together was at the home she shared with her parents and brothers. There were no "metaphors" as far as I was concerned. I just wanted her entire family tied down so I could get at the goodies. LOL

“The Red Special" as Brian May's guitar is called or sometimes “The Fireplace.” That’s the guitar that Brian May (guitarist of Queen and physics researcher) began building with his father circa 1963, when Brian was about 16 years old. Lacking money but not ingenuity, the father-son team built the guitar using materials found around the home. The neck of the guitar was fashioned from an 18th-century fireplace mantel, the inlays on the neck from a mother-of-pearl button. For the body, they used wood from an old oak table. Then the bricoleurs combined a bike saddlebag holder, a plastic knitting needle tip, and motorbike valve springs to create a tremolo arm. He still plays it as of last night at the Queen + Adam Lambert concert in Belfast Ireland.

Appreciate you detailing that. To my ears, that sound is completely Brian's own. I know no one had ever sounded like that before, and I don't think anyone ever really has since. Possibly even guitarists inspired by him still sort of steered clear of copying him too much, just because it is immediately identifiable.

He was unique and gifted musician and I was very much heartbroken when we learned he had AIDS and then when he passed away so soon after. I think it hit so close to home for me because I was hospice worker caring for AIDS patients for much of the 1980s. You should listen to the Queen song "Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke" which is amazing to me as it is lyrically portraying the painting by English artist Richard Dadd (from the 1800s) -- It is a beautiful painting and I have a print on my wall.

I think you got 'glam Freddie' tonight. This is how I first was introduced to them. This song. This Freddie. His song lyrics are clever, well-written & doesn't Freddie look so fine in his fox fur jacket? Notice the fingernails on his left hand are painted in black polish. Notice the fingernails on Brian's left hand are painted in white. Lovely fellows. Thank you for your reaction.

you guys are non joking about Freddie being unique. I saw them live in1986 in Budapest and at the middle of the show Freddie sang a Hungarian folk-song in Hungarian of course everyone in the audience celebrated this. we were like 60thousand people in the main soccer- stadium of the country this I will never forget! BTW of course their most iconic song is the Bohemian rhapsody, but my favorite queen song is: was it all worth it

Guys, I am a fan of Queen right from the early seventies. Arguably some of their best stuff came from their first Albums. You must try out Queen's live performances from that era - White Queen, Hammersmith Odeon 1975. Freddie is on fire.

This was the very first song by Queen that I ever heard, back in the day (I know, I don't look that old😜), and it is still great. Freddy is, arguably, the greatest Rock singer of all time. And, the rest of the band are terrific as well, making up one of the greatest groups in Rock history. There is another great Rock singer, Jon Anderson, of Yes, who is also in one of the greatest bands ever, and I wish you knew him better. His voice is ethereal, almost heavenly. Yes is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which has not even inducted Blue Oyster Cult yet (which is a musical crime, by the way). Yes is Big Time, and yet you guys, whom I love, have reacted to them only once, and not even to one of their best songs, even though OOALH is a very good song. So, please, give their greatness another listen. "Roundabout" is always the best song to hear upon first listening to Yes. It is stunning.

Queen is one of the biggest British rock bands formed in 1970. Freddie Mercury had one of the best voices around with an amazing range. He was a real showman as the live concerts show. "Bohemian Rhapsody" is their most famous song but they had so many great hits in the 70's-90's such as "We Will Rock You", "We Are The Champions", "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", "Love Of My Life", "You're My Best Friend", "Who Wants to Live Forever", "Somebody To Love", "Fat Bottomed Girls", "The Show Must Go On" etc.

I think the MJ comparison is pretty apt. I saw Michael during the Thriller tour in 83 as a ten you old, and he was spectacular, and also commanded the stage. I would say the thing Queen does is that they have world class instrumentalists/vocalist backing the fantastic Freddie. I have loved this song forever, and I really love that you all enjoy them so much. Great stuff.

Brian May the guitarist when he started playing guitar had no money to buy one so his Dad bought a old English fireplace and made a guitar out of it creating the most unique sound outside Eddie Van Halen. Eddie was so inspired he made his own guitar put together different guitars into one great sound. Brian May 76 played on the five finger death punch song blue on black.
