If you want to know how to storyboard for animation - or even storyboard in general, because it's pretty much the same thing, storyboarding is storyboarding - then good thing you're here, cos that's what this video is about. Learn storyboarding 101 - the part storyboarding plays in the production process, what details you should include in your storyboard, the process of taking the script and thumbnailing then refining it all into a storyboard.
If you're looking to learn how to animate, you should also learn how to storyboard. Often, animators are given a storyboard to work from but in some cases, you're expected to storyboard yourself. As well as the fact that if you ever want to work on your own projects or IP, you'll need to storyboard it! So learn what makes a good storyboard and what you should be including .....and avoiding..... when creating your storyboards.

I’m not a creative professional and I’ve never made an animated video - I’m a business person using amateur animation software. Even so, this was a superb overview and gave me what I need to think through the process and make sure the end result isn’t a train wreck. Thoughtful, well-paced and delivered by someone who clearly understands her craft. Thank you Robyn.

Before this video I've been checking out plants that can survive my "level" of care. I've found this ZZ plant and watched 2-3 videos on it. And there it is, in a corner of your room. Question about company pipeline: If you have 3 people in the pipeline from script to thumbnails to storyboard to animator, well who is doing the acting? Who creates that reference? I guess that the animator does it. If he creates the reference how does it go along with the already prepared storyboard with facial expressions etc? I've seen some very detailed storyboards and I guess that people expect you to animate what THEY draw. Then again, it can lead to horrible animation if you do not have a reference that feels and is natural. As for what I would love to see is part about seamless flow between the scenes. That is a topic I did not see anyone cover.

that plant is the best. I'm a terrible plant owner and it's still thriving. Usually the storyboarder would act it out for reference for the storyboard , and the animator would use what's in the storyboard as a guide but things can still change in animation. If you check out the storyboard for Frozen's Into the Unknown for example , you'll see that stuff still changed quite a bit during animation. So if the animator discovers that something might be better if it was a little different than how it is in the storyboard, that's fine. The animator would still act out their own reference to see how things look in motion, because as much as they follow what's in the storyboard, they'll need their own reference for things in action and to understand it fully themselves to make it look natural.

your videos are very good! very straight forward and well explained! at the moment i don't intend to make very complex animations because i'm taking care of my mental health at the moment (i want to make animation memes, something very simple and relaxed to start), but I already subscribed and saved several of your videos because I know they will be very useful in the future ^^

thank you, that's great to hear! It's so nice to have animation even just as a chilled hobby, but taking care of your mental health is the most important!

No, you don't need to. Coding can help with expressions or if you want to be a TD but otherwise not really. I don't.
