Let's build an offroad service truck!
This FSJ Jeep J10 started life as a fun truck ready for the farm... But we want more! Swapping this onto a Cummins powered 1 ton Dodge opens up a world of capabilities! Today I'm planning, ordering, cutting the frame in half and planning some more. This is a great start to building trucks in the new shop!

Definitely J10 bed. You can modify it if you need to. FWIW, your Lexus build was actually my favorite of any build I have ever watched. I loved how much capability you brought out, with so little actual difficulty or complication. Simplicity is genius.

Can an old box bed be thrown in the mix? Tons of storage for tools, recovery gear, and some have welders/ air compressors with them.

J10 bed for sure but add some rub rails/ reinforced fenders so if you do slid into a tree maybe it survives

Nate, if the J10 bed doesn’t meet your requirements for serviceability, you can always chop the sides down and make it into a service bed.

Dirt Reynolds deserves to have the J10 bed! It'll make a more unique rig because most don't want to package things around OEM equipment. Excited to see how many times you go back and forth haha.

J10 bed! I love builds that add capability without completely changing the vibe of the original vehicle. Your orange 80 series was a perfect example of that- I was shocked by how much suspension and tire capability you were able to engineer while keeping the general vibe of the vehicle honest!

Go legit ham on this one. Do a custom bed that integrate the J10 bedsides, slice them horizontally and build internal hinges so you can fold the top half down as work tables/bed access when you're doing trail repairs or cooking lunch.

Tbh from a everyday use standpoint, the flat bed is the best choice. But for some reason I still vote for the jeep bed, just looks sick!

J10 bed, slider-nerf bars that tie into fabricated flares into a rear bumper. Tree/rock proof with similar body lines of the truck. I think it would be sweet and still be custom.

IMO if you really wanted to go over the top I would think about turning it into a crew cab. It may be a bit much on the time/budget for the competition but they look sooooo sick as a crew cab and you have more room for activities. I’m the fan of a flatbed or utility type bed but I could go either way. The shop is looking great too by the way!

You could always do a pipeliner style flatbed where you do a custom flatbed but use the Jeep bed sheet metal to make it kind of a factory+ look and you could make the upper walls of the Jeep bed fit in to stake pockets on the flatbed so you could retain the factoryish looks. My vote is for an Australian style flatbed, but I understand why you want to keep the original bed. I think a pipeliner style bed would probably be the happy medium. And as a side note: I loved the LandCruiser build. It was cool to see a very capable rig that didn’t cost an unrealistic amount of $$$$$

I think it’s looks awesome. Ultimately, it’s your truck so do what you want. If it were me, I’d do a flatbed for what you’re wanting to do. I’d hate to destroy the bed on a tree or rock. I’ll watch either build. I always learn so much watching your channel. Keep up the great work!

100% Jeep Bed. Do that for a while for coolness and you can always build a flat bed in the future. Because based upon your previous vis (using the camping trailer as my example, you will get hung up in the details of the features on the beds design, vs. Just getting this to an operational vehicle. This will allow. You to get it on the road and design (in your head) what you would want on your flat bed. Plus you. An do the flat bed on the side as a parallel project while using this truck.

Dude, I would love to work in a tremors vibe somehow. My dad took my brother and I to see tremors when it first came out. We saw it on a military base in Greece (we were stationed there), and we were WAY too young to understand what was going on! I remember being scared to let my feet touch the floor in the movie theater 😆. Good old fashioned 80s memories...

Vehicles are simply better with some real personality! Putting a flat bed on an off-road rig is almost equivalent with an ls swap... everyone's done it. It works, don't get me wrong, it just doesn't have that extra charm. Love the name and love the idea of keeping the jeep bed with the cab! And as others have said, the Lux Cruiser was one of the coolest builds I've ever seen. It felt attainable as a do-it-yourself/at-home mechanic while also being incredibly capable!

On second thought, here is a suggestion that would be super cool. Build out the truck with the J10 body for obvious cool factor. Do it with the narrow 14 bolt. Also build it with ease of removal in mind. Then, build out a flat bed that matches the mounting tabs for the J10. Like a quick change bed. Best of both worlds and could have some neat utility based on how you are going to use the truck for a particular trip. For example Jeep bed = camp setup Flat bed = offroad service truck

Why not both? There are some awesome build channels out there, yours is the best. Keep the J10 bed, modify whatever you have to get flat bed functionality. If anyone can think of a genius way to do this, it’s you.

J10 bed with custom flares so you can keep it a dually! It would look so badass with a skinny set of 37s in the back and half turned into a wrecker! Not a full boom, but maybe a lighter duty boom to lift heavy items into the bed, but still have full offroad capabilities a winch in the bed could work for some recoveries!

J10 bobbed for departure angle! Then add the appropriate rock sliders for protection. Or boat side the whole thing. It'll still have the classic lines of the J10 but with function.

J10 bed would be so Kewl... But do BOTH. A flat bed for the practicality and customised features and off road , bounce off senary etc. And the J10 bed for not so hard core etc.. also a slide on camper etc . Keep up the build.
