I went float fishing earlier in the year but had not luck, so wanted to give it another gobefore the winter arrived, bought a bag of prawns and headed down to the rocks. I took my LRF fishing gear and and heavier rod just incase the float fishing wasn't very good. Tried out a great little micro jig designed for light rock fishing wich seems to work out pretty good too. Plenty of coalfish and a pollack landed.

Remember fishing at the bottom of some cliffs in SE Scotland. I lost my footing, ending up sliding, on my back, towards the sea. Chucked my gear up in the air and flailed around with my hands hoping to grab something. I managed to grab a rock. Ever since then I’ve worn a life jacket. Happy ending being that, to my right, my rod was swinging like a pendulum off the end of my pal’s rod.

Hiya slippy another interesting vid nice to see you float fishing I love it I often think it’s addictive seen some nice sea trout caught on float this summer whilst mackerel fishing over my way (Cumbria) float often tends to pickup the bigger fish was very surprised to see a guy next to me float fishing for mackerel and pulling out a bull Huss about 3lb. I really like the venues you fish keep them coming pal really luck forward to them tight line’s mate.

Fellow geordie here who thinks your fishing vids are class! One tip for you. Use a higher strength braid and weaker floro leader so you never loose any braid again. Example, 10lb braid with 5lb leader. This way the leader snaps and you keep your braid. It works every time for me. I never lost any braid in the sea this year!

Eyup Nathan. Little fish are sweet. On the subject of which - do you get Herrings up your way in winter? I like to go and bag a few in December to make roll mops and I plan to try smoking a few this year - I've never tried that before. They're fiddly but fun and as sustainable a way to eat fish as it gets these days. Thanks for this one and I'll sithi after. Dave

Try bubble floats Nathan, self weighted (water) and you can adjust them to sit very low and still see them easily also cast them miles, caught loads floating baits just above the weed beds, squid is good and stays on well, and you can keep in freezer and get from supermarket. ps use a rod with large rings and use an adjustable float stop, thread the line through only one hole of bubble float, does not cast as well but you can vary the depth and get down to weed beds in deeper water.

@@SlippyLimpets Yes if you can be bothered and need to cast far buy the oval shaped not round floats. then tie the float next to the bait length with pva tape/string to help get distance. The idea is to keep all the weight at the end for casting, but once tape releases the float you can go as deep as you want, worked for me. Buy the adjustable soft float stoppers and put on mainline. I used floating mainline to keep clear of snags, it lets the float drift naturally. I carry a spare spool one rigged with normal braid or mono and one with floating.

Hi Nathan - as per your kind and generous offer of some links / tips, I’m going up to Skye on Friday 19th til Sunday, as I’m back at work after that! I’m going with the missus and we are going to do a wee spot of rock fishing. Not expecting much due to the drop in temperature, but it’s always great to get out - and I’d love some advice. We are staying near Isle Ornsay Harbour in the South East corner of Skye but can easily jump in car to travel around the island. What advice would you offer mate, for spots, marks and approach to tackle & techniques? I want to get the lady interested, or at least get that feeling of being out in nature with the possibility of maybe a bite or even a take. Your time and advice is much valued and appreciated. I’ll even state that I shall buy a Born Slippy T shirt to take me back to my bass bin rave days! I was out in kayak at Eyemouth on Wednesday from golf course side round to beyond caravan park towards Coldingham Bay and I landed two coalies and then two mackerel! Mackies, In NOVEMBER! Madness! Beautiful fish though; real tiger striped! Kept one for a wee poached egg, mackerel on toast brekkie! Delicious! I had a big take on a white, sidewinder sand eel plastic; on a 7ft 5g to 20g Daiwa Sensor spin rod on 13lb braid/ 12 lb Fluor leader. It went bang then dove like crazy and I got three pulls and reel-ins before it snapped me at the leader knot/ swivel. It had my rod nearly doubled up and the tip went into the water as my kayak tilted. I sh@t myself, whilst whooping! Is that a pollack doing that? What a fright / buzz / feeling! I also had a massive seal buzz me for at least 5 minutes giving me the big eye, saw two others and also saw dolphins. A grand day! Keep up the brilliant work; it’s not really work when it’s so enjoyable though but, huh? Best regards marra, and apologies for the essay! Gary

Hi Nathan, as I've just got into lure fishing, thanks in the main to your brilliant videos, I want to keep going through the winter but didn't think it would be productive. Hi James, in all honesty this is the latest I have lure fished for, I normally ditch the lure tackle and get out the bait rod, but I do start lure fishing again in January. So there's no reason why you can't catch fish all the way through the winter. One thing I have noticed about winter lure fishing and that is the fish will only take a really moving lure, the bites are rare but when you do get them the fish seem to be a good size. Hope this helps and best of luck👍🎣

Haha, I wish I could play Born Slippy but youtube would slap me with a copyright strike straight away. Check out my 3rd most recent vid, it has a bit of the descent in it. I would like to include some of the approach in my vids but most of the marks I fish are hard to get to and I don't want to be responsible for any accidents people might have trying to get to them. BTW, I have a T shirt on my merch site inspired by Underworld 😉 thanks for the comment and tight lines 👍🎣

@@SlippyLimpets Thank you, I get it, can't be too careful. YT channel Vice Grip Garage always has a nice disclaimer in the first minute along the lines of 'I am an idiot, do what I do at your own risk. Don't take my advice unless you are really desperate. For entertainment etc.' The climb is pretty unique from other content. I will likely get some merch for Xmas. Be well.

I like the sound of that disclaimer, although it probably wouldn't stop me getting the comments I do. Have a look at the latest comments on that video I mentioned. Hope you like your Christmas merch!

@@SlippyLimpets I had a scan of those comments and 98% are in praise, in awe or both. The detracting 2% are split between (likely) projecting their own short comings or genuinely concerned that perhaps a helmet/safety vest would be more prudent. This is subjective but I like your raw approach. Some YTbers are adopting vests, not sure if they get paid to wear them (I'm thinking Smash Fishing and Fish Locker) perhaps they are motivated about safety of course. It's about whatever floats your boat. For me it’s better to cross the line and suffer the consequences than to just stare at the line for the rest of your life. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for your comments Martin, some wise words there and it's not often we get quotes from philosophers on this channel. I don't know about Smash, but John Locker is safety motivated also the fact he has such a big following it's important to be seen to do the 'right thing'. I'll stick a bit more approach footage next time I hit the rocks. Thanks again Martin much appreciated and tight lines 👍🎣

I don't get to fish that much so I fish whenever I can. The ebb seems to be best for my area but if I knly fished them, then I'd not get a great deal of fishing done
