I absolutely love my new Rock Island Model M1911 A1-FS .45 ACP Burnt Bronze pistol. I have owned lots of 1911 pistols over the decades and this Rock Island really is the best $499 I ever spent on one.

@@myfavoritemartian1 I sort of figured. I'm not in demand for over 8 rounds of .45 anyway. I think too much is made about capacity from people who judge everything by the function of 9mm.

Yes, because they're from the Philippines. These are the pistols they use over there. 1911 is practically a religion over there. They have honed the fine art of 1911 pistol smithing ever since the first pistols were left over there after WW2.

Glad to see you guys back! I solved the problem with my steel targets jumping off the hooks by getting an old fire hose and making a loop and bolting it through the hole on the target. It doesn't fall off, plus it doesn't walk along the cross bar as badly when I set up the 8 ft. long one for multiple targets. If it gets shredded by spall, I have more firehose and can just make a new one in no time at all.

I just acquired a RIA 1911 in 22 TCM (actually more like a 2011 because it's double stack, 17 rounds) and it's a beast! Nice trigger, no malfunctions in first 100 rounds. Good to see you two back out, now that the pot pie baking weather has passed.

I bought the same exact RIA 1911 used. Saw it on the internet and ordered it. Picked it up at a local FFL. It was well used and never cleaned. I think who ever had it before me shot it till it stopped working. Came in a gun rug, no papers, and one magazine. I took it home, gave it a quick cleaning and lube. Took it to the range and fired about 10 rounds thru it before I started having failures. Took it home again, detail stripped it, scrubbed and lubed every piece. I used Wilson Combat oil on the rails. The next time I went to the range, I took 150 rounds. Only had one failure to go into battery after about 120 rounds. It's just breaking in. I love it.

It’s not a Mec-Gar magazine, but another Italian manufacturer known as “ACT”, also referred to as “Advanced Tactical”. I’ve got two of these for my RIA M1911A1FS “Tactical II” .45 and they both work just fine. My gun is the same as yours except grey finish instead of burnt bronze, a red fiber optic front sight, and two white dots on the rear sight, which is fully adjustable. Got it for $700 out the door a year and a half ago. Jammed three times in the first 70 rounds but has been practically flawless in the subsequent 600 rounds or so. Reliable and accurate, happily digests every brand/type of ammo I’ve fed it, including hollow points.

That and the 5.7 x 28mm are one of the best kept secretes in firearms today. Tiny and fast for both defensive and varmint hunting. Next to zero recoil, but plenty of devastation on your chosen targets.

@@antoniotula262I've always loved the aesthetics of the HiPower, but until recently, could never find/afford one. I shoot several hundred rounds a week, so I try hard to limit myself to 9mm, .38 Special and .22lr to minimize my ammo costs, so the 9mm 1911 seemed like a no-brainer. It's a wonderful gun, and performs very well at the range. My SA35 is a beautiful gun that performs flawlessly and has a higher capacity, but I paid nearly a grand for it. I got the Rock Island for $600, I think. They are of very comparable quality. I also love the G10 grips on my Rock Island so much that I've put similar ones from LOK Grips on several other guns.

@@earhornjones Same here, I'd buy a good clone. Girsan, Tisas & others got great reviews. The problem is, any new gun buy needs to be a carry (some guys carry duty sized pistols, but not me)

I shot a more expensive 1911 today and liked it quite it a bit. The owner recommended I look into rock island, so it was quite the coincidence to see this when I got home.

I have two Rock Island Armory 1911’s I first bought the .45 ACP G.I. Series. The I bought the 9 mm G.I. Series model. I practice with the 9 mm which has a 4 lbs trigger pull. I carry conceal the .45 ACP which has a 3 lbs trigger pull. It a great way to practice. I will never give up my 1911’s ever!!!

Nice .45. I have an older model in the commander size.. that is very nice.. gotta have a large bent paperclip to break it down for cleaning. But it's a great shooter. And in this heat, nobody is walking home.

I've yet to hear any negative about Rock Island Armory firearms. Although I don't own any of their firearms, your video may have just put me in the position to pick up one of those 1911's.👋🤠👍 Great review as always.🇺🇸😏👍

I really enjoy my Rock Island Armory 1911. I haven't had any problems with the magazines and the fiber optic front sight is easy to see. I wish my Ruger SR1911 had the same sights.

I love RIA 1911s. They are cheap, but they run pretty well once they are broken in and cleaned well. They come pretty gritty, but I clean the heck out of them and get everything nice and lubed. I have a full size 10mm and it's my favorite full size pistol I have.

I got that same model but in smoke grey, but I tell you rock island armory makes incredible M1911s and I got lucky and picked mine up for $399 during a black friday sale, the price of the gun may be cheap but its reliable and you definitely get your bang for your buck

I was in my local Bi-Mart last week when a Rock Island .45 in the showcase caught my eye. Lo and behold, it had a set of adjustable sights on it. It cost only $399.00 so I gave it a lookover and bought it. I previously had bought a Tisas match with adjustable sights and was real happy with it. I went to my local outdoor range and put some of my handloads through it. I’m going to have to have a runoff with it and my Tisas because it’s every bit as accurate. I see they have a slightly fancier version of this out now and they might just be closing this one out. I had no idea it would be that good. No hangups in the first 200 rounds.

The only thing I didn't like about that pistol was the finish. I lean more toward black. You two are pretty good "Rusty" Shooters. Those were some mighty tight groups y'all shot right at the beginning! Sounds like a really good price too. I own a Rock Island 1911A1 in 9mm and I love it. I actually had issues with the magazine it came with so I bought two Mecgar magazines and they ran just fine so I bought two more magazines. Congrats on your baby and I hope it serves you well in the future!

These RIA are actually Armscor, which is from the Philippines. If you don't know, 1911s are practically a RELIGION over there. It's pretty endearing to see an iconic piece of Americana picked up and embraced by a foreign culture like that.

I'll be honest, while I like the look of 1911s....I'm too practical to spend 800-900 for a decent 1911 that I'll rarely carry (granted I'm not that practical with revolvers). That being said, the more I see RIA 1911 reviews, and if you can get a beauty like this one for $500, I'd gladly put off buying another .357 4 or 6 for an M1911...........which would justify buying one of those Hi-Point .45 carbines (that I've always kind of had an eye on) to go with it. Great vid and equally great to see you back in action.....SW American summers can be brutal.
