Studying how pools of light fall on objects, such as in a forest clearing, really captures my imagination. I touched on that effect in my fantasy painting video a couple weeks ago but now I'm yearning to do more. Join me as I do another study of this specific effect.

You never disappoint! What a simple subject - yet you elevated it to a wonderful study of light. You kept taking it up a level. Adding the darks was great, then making the negative space lighter was amazing. Sometimes I think we can worry so much about overworking that there is a danger of being finished before it is done! Bravo.

Wow, excellent light study! Honestly, at first, I didn't understand what you were after and I was a bit scared when you added the green all around the painting with the wide brush. The end result, however, is absolutely beautiful. Adding the light in between the trees in the center portion really helped round the piece out and it truly looks as if a ray of sunshine is focused directly upon that center area. Thanks, I learned a bunch. PS I hope your Father's Day is good!

Hi Steve, My Steve Mitchell palette arrived today. I are very excited. We also purchased the Wet Palette paper sampler. Can you consider doing a video testing the various papers and their strengths and weaknesses. It is a fascinating assortment of papers including yupo, 300, 200 and 140lb papers, black and tinted paper... I would love to know more about how to use each of them so we could order more in time. Thank you.

Another great tutorial and video,Steve! I finally got your Daniel Smith palette from the second round. They are beautiful. I want to complete the set and I hope you don’t mind, can ask with the existing set what colors would you recommend in your opinion. This is my first Daniel Smith, I have Roman Szmal,they are very nice, I have a complete palette, they come in full pan. I actually do coloring existing line art. Mostly botanical, flowers also some animals and portraits. Right now I am looking only for half pans, I noticed DS doesn’t have a big selection in that,mostly tubes and sticks. But if not DS I would use Schminke, I just don’t know if their half pans would fit in the DS palette? Would app your input. Thanks!

This was really helpful Steve, watching how you use both watercolor and gouache in a painting. I've recently starting playing with gouache and after seeing your palette, I like the idea of watercolors on one side and gouache on the other. Does the M Graham gouache crack less than others and/or do you have to spray it periodically to keep it from cracking and falling out of the pans?
@mindofwatercolor
@mindofwatercolor 3 жыл бұрын
It does tend to keep from cracking as much. It still cracks though.
