On February 25, 2014, RCFP released Rock Candy Funk Party Takes New York - Live At The Iridium (J&R Adventures) -- a live DVD/Blu-ray package which includes a 30-minute documentary and an exclusive live companion double CD featuring over 100 minutes of music all filmed and recorded at the legendary Iridium Jazz Club in New York City.
With its reboot of classic '70s /'80s jazz-funk, Rock Candy Funk Party (RCFP) delivers a sound that's as celebratory as the name suggests. Powered by a lineup of world renowned players-album producer Tal Bergman (drums), Joe Bonamassa (guitar), Ron DeJesus (guitar), Mike Merritt (bass), Renato Neto (keys), and Daniel Sadownick (percussion)- the band came together for the sheer fun of making music, and a mutual love of genre-blurring grooves.

RCFP = pure awesome. Only thing that could make it over the top would be a real horn section. Big props to Renato for synthing the horns. More RCFP videos please.

The effect you hear in Joe’s solo is an effect called ring modulator, and yes, it is weird😂😂😂

Way to go, Mike Coster. I'll never get any work done at this rate, damned Joe Bonnanamaso playing on the videos and when I minimize the screen and try to look back at the work, here comes another funky hook and I have to maximize the screen again to see whats going on in the video, shit. Is that Chick Corea I hear in there ? MAXIMIZE !!

I believe it's some sort of ring modulator, but I'm not for certain.

That is definitely a theremin! You can hear it in the background of the studio version of Ballad of John Henry, most notably in the solo section; he also uses it on the live rendition of the song as well. It generally works like this, sourced from HowStuffWorks: "A theremin works by generating electromagnetic fields around two antennae. A straight, vertical antenna controls pitch; A horizontal, looped antenna controls volume. A masterful player makes very small, precise finger and hand movements in the field around the vertical antenna to change pitch and create melodies."
