Right hand technique is an important part of playing efficiently and effectively. Proper technique ensures that you have control over the rhythms you will play, as well as, the tone that is produced when you strum/pluck notes and chords. In this lesson, we’ll be going over a handful of ways to improve your right hand technique including hand position, strumming, and fingerpicking approaches.

I'm working on my refining basics and this was helpful thank you! Somehow I always thought resting my pinkie is a bit of a cheat I'll evidently need to learn away from, but it's just one option I see :)

As a sometime classical guitar player I was taught that anchoring the RH was a no-no because it restricted its movement in the direction of the bridge (forming a sharper sound) and in the direction of the fingerboard (forming a rounder sound). Lute players IIRC do typically anchor with the pinkie but the sharper/rounder sound variation doesn't work as well on the lute (or, possibly, the lute composers weren't interested in this sound variation). In place of anchoring the RH with the pinkie, classical guitarists often rest the RH thumb on their 6th string until it is needed. Perhaps that would work as well on the ukulele and it does not restrict lateral movement of the RH.

I would say resting the right-hand thumb on the fourth string depends on what you are playing. For example, I prefer to do it when picado picking notes that fall across the first and second strings. However, it wouldn't work if I were Travis picking a pattern across all four strings, as it would mute the fourth string at times.

Also Andrew I wanted to know your opinion about the Low G string, have you tried it ? If yes then did you like it ?

The high G is what gives the ukulele it's traditional tone/sound. Low G is great, but I prefer high G :)
