DOOM's backstory is super important to the whole mythos he constructed. His supervillain persona is deeply rooted in the betrayal by, and strong resentment towards, the music industry.

@kvonmusic325
@kvonmusic325 2 жыл бұрын
@@urlocalproducer In 1993 a few months before the 2nd KMD album "Black Bastards" was released, DOOM's brother SubRoc was killed in a car crash. DOOM finished the album in the coming months, only for Elektra Records to refuse to release the album due to the controversial cover art, around the same time the label dropped KMD from the label which left DOOM pretty helpless. He disappeared from the public eye for the next 3-4 years, even being homeless for this period of time. This is why I love his entire career, its really an amazing way to get back at the industry as a whole by putting out as much quality music for as long as he did, while at the same time finishing quite possibly the greatest underground rapper of alltime.

The four songs in the middle kinda serve as a commercial break in DOOM’s little show. Also i just noticed for the first time but in Fillet-O-Rapper when he says “I got a really stressful day and I really really needed some food, something healthy like beets” he makes beets into a double entendre and shows off his producing skills on the short tracks. One thing I really like about the “deep friend friendz” skit is in that skit you hear the story of DOOM told in the perspective of Reed Richards but in another song down the line you see that it was a lie and Reed was the reason DOOM had his accident so it pushes the idea of fake friends even more after the fact. Such a good story teller.

This album is a fucking masterpiece. I can't even say that i have a favourite DOOM album, because every fuckin album is great. You should listen to "Operation Doomsday" and "Born Like This" two amazing albums. Doomsday is DOOMs first album as DOOM, got a different sound than the other albums, not as "villainy" as the others. Kon Karne is probably my favourite track from this album, the beat is just amazing, but its kinda hard to decide because i love every single track. I cant get tired of DOOM, listened to him pretty much everyday since i discovered him like 10 years ago and havent gotten tired of him at all, he is on another level. Enjoy your weekend! I agree that there are definitely layers and navigating between the deeper subtext and one-off jokes is really hard. I fully believe that every lyric and sample DOOM used was placed intentionally, so I appreciate your willingness to look deeper and risk overanalyzing something (though these bars are so complex I'm not sure that's even possible). I think you struck a nice balance between analysis and listening. I've listened to this album a ton and you still caught things I missed, so thanks for giving me even more appreciation for this masterpiece.

I think the flat production of Beef Rap is on purpose, because it uses comic book cartoon sounds as part of the beat. It's supposed to sound old, crackle, and melodramatic like the old movies and cartoons he samples for the beginning. Essentially saying you're now in the realm of superheroes and supervillains.

DOOM has so many great albums and some are realeased under different aliases that are incredible. Vaudeville Villian by Viktor Vaughn and Take Me to Your Leader by King Gheedorah are both DOOM under different aliases. Special Herbs and Spices with MF Grimm, Black Basterds by KMD, and Operation Doomsday are must listens as well. Thank you for loving DOOM as much as you do.

One of my favourite albums of all time. I have almost every sample and skit memorized. Can't wait. This and madvillainy came out 2004. Mm food in March and madvillainy in November. Vaudeville Villain came out in September of 2003 too. That's his most productive period. Also, it's lower priority but before the mask he was KMD with his brother in the nineties. Great conscious rap. The villain was his revival/return

Amazing reaction, MM..FOOD is such a great album in DOOM's catalogue. One other album I'd recommend checking out is under his King Geedorah alias, "Take Me To Your Leader". It's not so much a DOOM-centric album as it's mostly guest features, but it's an excellent showcase of his production abilities and is one of my personal favorite albums that he's created. A full reaction would be a dream but it's worth a listen even casually.

Fig leaf yeah you hit the nail on the head. The way he makes music and beats in particular is fine so meticulously and each piece is found, mixed and matched to make an amazing dish or beat at the end. It’s not like a beat off a production line. The best producers make beats that no one other than them can make. Unique

Strangely feels like a TV show. I never noticed that until now. He adds his own spin after or before each song to show samples from shows. In between these songs are commercials that involve some sort of eating/hip-hop enthusiasm. Really cool concept that i didn’t even know about until now lol.

“Beef rap” could all be referring to food or having beef with someone. “Could lead to getting teeth capped” “It could lead to high blood pressure if you fry it” Etc…. It’s the specific looking lens to view the whole project with. It almost becomes a game of finding and understanding new references over time.

I enjoyed this so much! Metal Fingers is MF DOOM’s pseudonym (or alternate name) for his producing persona. So he produced the majority of the tracks on this album, which makes sense why he’d have extended instrumentals where he doesn’t rap at all. It makes me feel like his instrumentals are just as much an expression of himself as his voice is. I feel as if he chooses samples that best represent his viewpoints and accentuate his style. It’s as if his sample selection is not just what “sounds good”, but also picking samples whose words help contribute to the message of his tracks. As we see, in some tracks, he even incorporates the samples as repeated words and motifs in his verses. So there’s a direct correlation there between sample selection and meaning that I feel is so indicative of his uniquely effective style of self expression.

this album is a true fucking masterpiece, heavily underrated one at that. it’s insane how good DOOM’s pen was and how much time you can really put into breaking each song down. you can literally spend hours digging into the lyrics of his songs and you’re guaranteed to either laugh, learn something, or simply have your mind blown. this is why he’s in my top 5 greatest rappers of all time, the man is a legend that was lightyears ahead of the rap game. long live the villain

Respect for really diggin into those lyrics. MF (RIP) had to be one of the most unique rappers out there. The talking in third person, the numerous obscure pop culture references, the story within a story rhymes, and many people forget, but he is also a comedian with the bars. Glad you pick up on the fun factor of his bars.
