Travis is an artist who, in my opinion, uses autotune as an instrument instead of just minor fixes to singing/rapping. You can hear how extreme he uses it to express the woozy feeling from his drug-induced lifestyle into music. (So not a lyrical, conscious rapping album but a production-based album that captures this feeling)

The first half of 90210 is about Travis chasing that feeling of being “low”, where at this point in his life, he’s consumed by the drugs and not really having any solid direction. So it was a very huge low point in his life. The second half is more like an awakening, where he “done found life meaning now”, and now he’s moved away from that need to feel low. Its not exactly a concert banger, but mannnnnn blasting this in your headphones at 2 in the morning is elite

Just know that prejudice exists with many people including those who actively listen to rap because the loudest segments of rap and hip hop culture do include characters much like what you're describing. You’re prob going to get this recommendation, but Kid Cudi is a rapper who influenced Travis & has a group with Kanye (one song they rap over Kurt Cobain’s “Burn The Rain”). He’s got rock influences in his work. Even made a couple alternative/grunge albums. He’d be a natural progression from Kanye and Travis.

You should listen to Atrocity Exhibition by Danny Brown. It's loud, rough, brash and lyrically genius. The production has a post rock feel to it. Just amazing. One of the best hip hop albums ever. And the theme of the album is Danny brown going on a downward spiral

*What happened? Now my daddy happy Mama called me up, that money coming and she love me I done made it now, I done found life's meaning now All them days her heart'd break, her heart not in pieces now* Travis was supposedly enrolled to the University of San Antonio in Texas while his parents paid for everything, but he had secretly dropped out and went on trips to NY and L.A to make his music be heard. While he was away from College, his parents decided to pay him a surprise visit, only to find out he had dropped out months ago. They didn't want him to pursue a music career, so naturally when they found out that he had been using their money not for college but for flight tickets, studio sessions and hotels, they cut him off. In this verse, Travis kinda acknowledges it, and kinda thinks back to days when he didn't have a lot and now with the money and fame he was able to repay his parents for the money they gave him.

You keep saying you want some aggressive/angry hiphop so im surprised not many people are suggesting artists that lean towards that. Some id recommend are: Denzel Curry (recommend Taboo or Unlocked to start out) Jpegmafia (Veteran or AMHAC) Ski mask the slump god (You will regret) Clipping. (VOBBB or TEAATB) Run the Jewels (any album is good to start tbh) Danny Brown (Atrocity Exhibition) Death grips (The Money Store) Eminem (Marshall Mathers) Outkast (Stankonia) Death grips and Clipping are by far the most aggressive out the group and I think it make for a great reaction to say the very least, but all of them are definitely worth checking out.

If you like heavy, distorted, aggressive music, I think the pinnacle in hip-hop for that subgenre would be Death Grip's The Money Store. It's by no means traditional hip-hop but it influenced Yeezus and countless others. Its heavy as fuck and as someone who listens to rock too it makes a lot of metal sound soft in comparison

i haven’t finished the video yet but i’ll explain a little bit about travis for you. he’s a rapper coming out of missouri city, houston. he came out with his first project in 2013 titled Owl Pharaoh, the following year he released Days Before Rodeo. One year later he released his debut album Rodeo. Following that he released Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight, Hunco Jack Jack Huncho which was a collaboration album between himself and Quavo who was featured on Oh My Dis Side. A year later in 2018 he released his most famous and Grammy nominated album, Astroworld, which he named after Six Flags Astroworld in Houston which was one of his favorite places. His biggest inspiration is an artist by the name of Kid Cudi, who is very close with Kanye and is his inspiration. Travis’ real name is Jacques Berman Webster II but his alias is Travis Scott, a mix between Kid Cudi (Scott Mescudi) and his favorite uncle named Travis. If you listen to Cudi you will hear how heavily inspired Travis’ music is by his. After his album Astroworld (2018) he has become one of hip-hops powerhouses having multiple collaborations between having a live event in the video game Fortnite, releasing a song with Kid Cudi and giving his inspiration his first #1 song with “The Scotts”. He also had a collaboration with McDonalds getting his own meal, and releasing multiple sneakers, and clothing items with Nike and Jordan Brand. This album is the story of him moving from Houston to LA, falling into addiction to money, drugs and women, but finally finding his meaning and being able to help his family. (Side note, Impossible is a song written about the music artist Rihanna, who was his girlfriend at the time who did not want the media to find out about the relationship because he wasn’t established, leading to him using drugs because of the depression, ultimately leading to them breaking up).

This album definitely isn’t one where the lyrics are necessarily thought provoking. There are some trav lyrics in this project that dive into his emotions a bit but it’s not the cornerstone of the album. Where the album really shines is in the production, the use of auto tune as an instrument and the many 808’s and synths.

Keep in mind that regardless of Kanye's anti-materialist sentiments, in the past and even till now he's either been materialist or one of those big spenders; like on All Falls Down off The College Dropout where he states that he's the same as all the people buying recklessly and just admits it/the insecurity.

2:00 YES too this whole bit. So awesome you were able to recognize that and look ahead of all the propaganda that so many people fall victim too. Yes in some instances at the surface level it may look like a lot of rappers and hip hop artists are just glorifying violence and drug abuse etc, but that's not the case. Not a glorification but a recount of the experiences these people went through and grew up in their lives, a shared experience that most black Americans have as a consequence of slavery, lack of reparations on top of jim crow, police brutality etc. hip hop is merely a form a art born out of the shared experiences they've grown up in a consequence of systemic inequalities blalbablah. With that said rodeo is definitely travis's best album and so far he hasnt topped it aha

Nightcrawler sounds like a sound you’d hear at a vampire nightclub lmaoo idk. I can picture people fucking right by the entrance, coke in the living room, flashing lights, etc. Reading the lyrics for this album was not the move I hope you see now that trap isn’t about the substance in the lyrics, more so the feeling you get when you listen to it. You don’t need lyrics to have some crazy double meanings for the music to be beautiful.

I've watched this reaction multiple times and love the channel. I just want to add that for Oh My, Dis Side: this song/the whole album is almost a coming of age story. This can be seen with the opening and closing tracks with TI's narration and the content of the songs. Oh My, Dis Side is similar in that regard because "dis side" is referring to his past life and where he came from. Talking about how he misses the people and the lifestyle even though now he's successfully made it and is wealthy and moved on. Oh My is his way getting to the wealth and success. Dis Side is once he's acheived it and reminiscing on the past.

Travis has a movie on Netflix called “look mom I can fly” which is about his life during the production and tour of his album ASTROWORLD it’s filmed in such a way that it grabs you and drags you into his life at the time and it doesn’t hold your hand it’s a very unique documentary I recommend it after your ASTROWORLD review (personally it’s my favourite travis album because it’s so genre bending and it was Grammy worth)

Some background on Travis, he is Kanye's protege and has been really close with kanye ever since they meet and in 2013, he opened up for Kanye's Yeezus tour along side Kendrick Lamar, but over the past few years has become a superstar and a house hold name in the rap/trap game mostly because of his sound with auto tune, his amazing production and his amazing live performances. His real blow up and what brought him to that superstar/rockstar status came from when he dropped his album rodeo in 2015 and is argued to be one of and if not the best trap album ever and since then hasn't stopped and only has gotten bigger since then and is one of my favorite artist. Thank you for doing this reaction, being real with your reactions and giving your own opinions on the music itself.
