Well done job - Both you and your wife. That plated detail is just that small thing that brings the entire project together!

Silver paint just doesn't do it for me. However, I was considering making those parts from aluminium and anodising them in a copper colour. Shiny won out though. Regards, Mark

Thanks for that. There was a time when I despised the mid century style because it seemed so daggy when I was growing up but I didn't realise at the time that it had it's own unique charm and some pieces of furniture are actually very refined in a stripped back sort of way. I have noticed that the old "starburst" wall clocks by Junghans are now fetching insane prices. We are back for another visit in NZ in August. We have been monitoring the temperatures and I now doubt that we have suitable clothing for the South Island. Regards, Mark

Thanks. I only found out the name when I was researching mid century tables. I would dearly love to own one of those kitchen tables with the red or green laminate top, chrome plated legs and polished aluminium edge banding. They must have been trashed in the hundreds of thousands when styles changed and now they command ridiculous prices if you can find one. We stumbled across a cafe in Port Townsend near Seattle which was decked out in that exact style and it looked sensational. Unfortunately it was closed when we got there and we could only look through the windows and admire. Regards, Mark

We were spoiled for choice when it came to the selection of era appropriate fabrics for those shades. We had a short list of about 16, all of them quite iconic in terms of the 1960's graphical style. The lamp shade kits make it easy to make your own bespoke lamps. I will pass on your praise to my wife. Regards, Mark

Great result Mark, beautiful finish. And many thanks for the tip of putting masking tape on the paint can to prevent the entire can being covered in paint after pouring it! That's one I'm definitely going to use from now on 👍
@Preso58
@Preso58 25 күн бұрын
That pouring spout was actually a clip in accessory that I purchased from my paint supplier. I have done it with masking tape too but the flexible plastic lip is a great idea. Pro tip, punch a series of holes around the "gutter" in the rim of the can. It allows any excess paint to drip back into the can when you replace the lid. Regards, Mark

That fabric is definitely spot on, great job. Might I suggest legs similar to the lamps for the lava lamp, either polished aluminum or painted red. I really need to get myself a spay gun, Ive never used one so great to get some tips thank you

I dont know if you've already sourced the hairpin legs for the table, but if you are having trouble getting some I do know Rockler sells them in different heights. Great job on the lamps, gotta love that art deco style🙂.

Nitro lacquer is nasty stuff, but dang if it isn't wonderful to work with. The lamps and those little ray gun "fairings" look great.

@Preso58 25 күн бұрын
Thanks. I generally spray outdoors if I can and the respirator keeps out most of the nasty stuff. The little nickel plated trims were actually inspired by "The Jetsons'". That's the Hanna Barbara TV cartoon series from the same mid century period. Regards, Mark

Could use that same fabric for the table top and epoxy over it.
@Preso58
@Preso58 25 күн бұрын
I was able to buy a wallpaper with exactly the same pattern so it will have a more uniform texture. I have a piece of post formed laminate kitchen benchtop for the table surface and I am considering sealing it with either epoxy or a gloss vinyl wrap as used on cars. Regards, Mark

And a neat way of pouring the lacquer out of the tin without spilling it and gumming up the lip of the tin. How did you make that?
@Preso58

You can buy those pouring lips from paint suppliers. They clip into the inner gutter on the paint can and they are flexible enough for different sized cans. Regards, Mark

Hi Mark! Excellent work, as always. For the guitar pick table, have you thought about using stencils and an airbrush to create the pattern? Cheers from Mittagong in NSW.
@Preso58
@Preso58 25 күн бұрын
No, because I have already ordered the matching pattern as a wallpaper which will be bonded to a post formed kitchen benchtop and sealed with either epoxy or a clear vinyl wrap. It should look very close to an original laminate panel. I hope.... Regards, Mark

I have three diamond toolholders. They are the 16mm shank size (although they measure closer to 15mm). I have them fitted in 250-201 quick change toolholder blocks. One is fitted with a 6mm round HSS tool blank and the others are right and left hand. I love them because they are so versatile. Regards, Mark
