This video is to help anyone who has an Audi S6 or A6 and their shift lever is locked in Park or Neutral. The video will show you how and where to access the small plastic tab on the shift lock solenoid to release the gear shift lever from Park so that you can put it into Reverse or Drive. Good luck.
Note that if you have this issue, the cause may be one of two (or in some rare cases, both) reasons: 1. Shift Lock Solenoid is bad and needs to be replaced - this is located under the shift lever; 2. The brake switch under the dash has partially or fully failed. This switch operates your rear brake lights and sends a signal to your shift lock solenoid that the brakes have been depressed enabling the shift lever to move out of the Park position. Please note that there are 2 types of brake switches and the one that I see in my 2002 S6 has a threaded plastic end that goes through the mounting plate and has a square electrical connection. The A6 has a 1/4 turn connector and a flat 4 pin electrical connector.
