Afaik, black walnut sawdust is toxic - but it burns in a fire pit just fine! Great looking log!

Love the video, excellent camera and mill work sir! I have the HM126 woodlander model and enjoy it immensely. Every board I cut into its like being a kid on Christmas morning opening gifts! I use a bucket on my mill to catch the sawdust as well. I keep a wheelbarrow close to the mill so I can empty the bucket quickly and get back to milling then empty the wheelbarrow at the end of the day. I also agree with several of the commenters about cutting the log shorter to conserve wood. Keep up the great videos!

Brock, you could get 5, 10, etc buckets, and just replace a full one with an empty one and continue milling. Deal with full buckets later. I'm sure you've already thought of this, though. Thanks for the great and diversified content.

Depending on what your projects are, you can cut the bent logs into shorter pieces and save a larger percentage of the log. Your useable pieces are shorter, but a lot of projects call for shorter boards. I have a lot of oak on my property and will saw a log that is so short that it barely fits between the bunks. That's a good size piece to quarter saw. My waste pile used for firewood stays a lot smaller this way. I have plenty of bent and twisted trees that are firewood only options, so I try to save as much clear grained wood as I can. I find that for many projects I end up cutting the long boards into shorter ones, so I just cut shorter ones from the bent logs and save the straight ones for longer boards. I'd think that there is plenty of use for shorter walnut boards, so you might want to consider that as an option. Great video! Love watching that mill run!

Brock, love how your mill is coming along. I would put a longer handle on the bucket so if it fills to the top, it will spill over and not stop the flow of the sawdust. Also, move the blade guide closer to the log. It will help reduce strain on the blade and a possible risk of kinking it.

Those thick twitches could be useful to bowl turners. Nathan has just started selling to those folks. You might talk to him and see how that's working out for him?

Good afternoon Brock. I'm running late today because of a family thing. My sister who had never been to our home in the mountains came for a visit. I'm no expert but most people in our area will usually give the sawdust to people for their gardens. As far as the first few pieces that you cut from the log I think that some craft people would be interested in purchasing some of the live edge pieces. Crafts are big here in our area. Maybe you could put an add out there and make a few bucks from it. Anyway, another great video. God bless and I'll be waiting for your next video. 👍👍😊

If you paint the end of the log it will minimize the end checking.

Hey buddy, let that saw calibrate for a few minutes lol, it sounds good 👍 I am a Stihl guy too. Just picked up a Ms 881. Putting a Alaskan mill ( 60") on my Ms 880. I'll do a video milling a huge Black walnut log I have been saving. Nathan has some good points but,!! Live edge is your best bet on smaller logs/ limb sections, always consider your best option for your first reference cut!!

well not everyone wants live edge slabs, Brock got what he wanted out of this log and sawed it correctly. Limb sections or limbs is firewood, you saw logs on a sawmill, the limbs going into the firewood pile,
