No rock or mineral is ever a waste. They're all beautiful in their own way. Wether we use them and cut and polish or if they're just sitting in my garden, or on my shelf.

@joane.landers9151

@@toneenorman2135 No need to worry, tonee, the diamond blade won't hurt him or anyone who cuts stones. The rim of the is smooth all around, unlike a circular saw with its jagged points all around the blade. Many years ago when I was teaching lapidary and the use of the diamond saw, I would turn the unit ON, place my thumb on the turning/running blade the turn the unit OFF & show that my thumb was undamaged. Hope this puts your mind at ease.

That was awesome to watch!!! Being zero schooled in geology, I assume the straws you were talking about were the crystal looking lines? If so could they have become full fledged crystals in time? Nature is the most incredible thing ever. A nondescript rock on a beach turned into a beautiful piece in the hands of someone with the knowledge just amazes me. Thank you for sharing your passion!
@RockhoundingLife
@RockhoundingLife Жыл бұрын
The straws in tbis stone used to be the crystals of another mineral, likely a zeolite. Quartz replaced the zeolite mineral but took the shape of the zeolite crystal and left behind a more durable mineral. A similar process to how petrified wood is formed.

We love to beachcomb for rocks along the N. Calif coast. What we have done with our "treasures" is put them in a narrow rectangular container with water, set them by a window, and enjoy the sun shining through. Don't be put off! Anyone can learn this skill! It's not even hard exactly, just...fiddly, lol! It helps to have lot of attention to detail, a steady hand, and of course, LOTS of patience! Of course, the equipment that you see here is a bit of a killer....but you can do the same thing with much cheaper equipment. It'll just take a lot longer, is all. Better equipment just speeds up the process and makes it easier. See if there's a local lapidary club that you can check out. The people there are often super stoked to talk about their hobby and give you advice on how to start. :D
