Great pick Dan and very funny reaction Don! Btw, Hayes Carll grew up in The Woodlands, TX about 30 mins from where I did. Here's what Hayes said about his song: "It's not aimed at anyone's religion," Carll said in our 2013 interview. "It's aimed at intolerance and poking fun at somebody who calls himself a Christian and yet would beat up Jesus if he walked into a bar right now. That was the idea behind it." There were a few folks who didn't get the joke in this song, but most people were in on it. "We had a few random threats and I've had people that didn't take it well, that didn't get it," Carll told us. "Jerry Falwell's son, I think, wrote something about it."

I was laughing before you started this song just imagining your reaction. The singer thinks Jesus is some new guy she has met, so we can forgive his misunderstanding. (No offence to the real Jesus.) Hayes had appeared on the Don Imus tv show several times, and Don loved this song. Of course, Don Imus was always in trouble. The other gem, which I see mentioned below, is "Another Like You." Maybe Dan started something here.
