My buddy has a rockproof and I love it, he loves it. It just sucks The prices are getting out of control. He got lucky and bought his at the beginning of Covid. Used with 40 hours for 35k

Wow never heard of that boat and setup! A beautiful boat! Wish I had one while living in Gaithersburg and fishing the Potomac above Violets Lock, some damn fine smallmouth fishing in that river! The locals (river rats) would just use a forward sitting seat with stick steer and a reinforced transom that was extended an extra 4" - 6" above the existing transom and use large outbound motors 90 - 110 hp, they would trim the motor up & out so they could sit above the river and read the water for sumererged rocks, they didn't slow down just snap the stick steer so the boat would just hop around the structure! They were beast on the River! But a boat like this! Hell even I could be a river rat! Great River Boat! 👍

How are you liking the extra 1/4 inch aluminum hull as compared to the UHMW now that you've had it a while? Bet that added some serious weight to the boat overall. Been thinking about re-doing my hull with a thicker plate in similar fashion.

Do you still run the Ulterra and if so, has it been reliable for your? I run the Shenandoah and Potomac mainly

Do you think the skid plate will hold up to denting the bottom of the boat as well as UHMW? It definitely looks and seems more durable, but curious if it is better or worse with harder impacts.

from what i’ve seen so far, it will hold up better all around. The only thing the plate might not do as well is slide off of rocks / gravel bars. but like I said, I haven’t had to get out of the boat yet to push

Have you thought about putting the K5 on top of the plate so it does slide off rocks easier?

I looked into it and found out K5 isn’t slick like uhmw without wetlander and it tears off the bottom of boats quicker and easier then UHMW. The wetlander won’t last forever either on the plate but it’s not a big deal to reapply it once a year during the down season if necessary

Im on year 3 with my jetski jon I built with the SeaDoo Rotax 110 One thing I can say about Wetlander is that it does not like to stay on aluminum if you grind often. We run the Delaware and I was actually shocked at how much of it disappears each season. I always figured id go UHMW on a future boat but after seeing this video, I can imagine plate being easier to deal with rather than plate with holes drilled all over it for plastic.

Honestly, the wetlander held on better then i expected but it does wear if you’re bumping and grinding a lot. probably not a bad idea to reapply during the down season. UHMW works great for a lot of guys. I just had trouble with it ripping and tearing off around the rear of the boat and around the intake. The plate should be more durable

@@jraymond115 Yeah I feel like Id be annoyed as the UHMW began to need attention. I'll stay posted on your input of the raw painted bottom because to me its a no brainer to maintain paint vs bolted plastic. As for Wetlander, im not plate im tin bottom so it flexes alot more is probably the big difference, Ive been very fortunate that my hits are lucky and only require some 3m5200 lol. Im so glad I thought to add thick angle strakes over the factory ones cause they have been saving my ass from welding repair.

Thanks for showing us the build, Joe. I'm thinking of adding the drotto to my RJ but concerned it might crash with the ulterra. You have any issues with that? Thanks again.

yes it is a problem with some trolling motors. . I reprogrammed mine to stow with the prop facing the opposite direction, it’s spun 180 degrees.

How much run time do you get with your Ulterra #112? I have an Ultrex #112 and I have only been getting about 1 or 2 hours out of it before it starts losing power fast in the river.

at least 8 hours. you might need new or larger batteries

Hey Paul. I had the same problem earlier in the year. Turned out that the seals on the motor failed and were letting water in gradually and causing the motor to struggle and consume a lot of power. Got it fixed (replaced the motor) and I'm getting 8 hours now. Hope this helps.

not yet. there was a shortage on what i wanted when i built the boat. since then i sort of got used to not having them. There are still some times i miss them. maybe someday.

It amazes me how everyone does these boat reviews nobody ever talks about the actual build of the boat. I'd like to hear how it's built. How are the stringers welded in ? Are they made out of extrusion or sheet metal. How is the transom built? What kind of bracing they use? It always seems to be about fish finders and trolling motors bolt on stuff.

Sick boat! Just curious, have you ever considered a river raptor? Seem like super similar boats (from an outsider perspective), but wondered if there where different trade offs with either.

I just left the facility a couple days ago and am on the build list for a river raptor. I gotta tell you, they may be a newer company, but those guys have things dialed in with plenty of R&D. Definitely go check out the facility, the guys behind the boats, and the craftsmanship put into their boats. They’ll chuck one of their boats in the river for you. I test drove one in 19 degrees and couldn’t have had a bigger smile on my freezing face. Just wanted to give my two cents since you had mentioned river raptor.

I think the way this boat is set up it would be around 55 - $60k

You wouldn’t have to get your feet wet at most boat ramps. . The river level was low and I had to back further out into the river than I normally do to demonstrate launching.
